Baby Boomers are now planning on getting rid of annual physical exams for anyone younger than them.

we all know about the hell socialism has wrought in Venezuela, but how about places like Canada, where sweet maple syrup and gooey multiculturalism flow down from Niagara Falls? Psychotic socialist Bernie Sanders has held up the country that looks like America’s hat as a beacon of utopia. Unfortunately, that’s far from true.

According to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), “Annual medical checkups for healthy Quebecers over the age of five are being scrapped under new medical fee guidelines being implemented by Quebec's government starting in June.”

The decision was made after a recommendation by the Quebec Federation of General Practitioners, a medical body not exactly known for groundbreaking research.

Quebec’s healthcare system will now choose winners and losers, those worthy of medical care and those that aren’t. Children under five and chronically ill patients will be able to book appointments with physicians more rapidly at the expense of seemingly healthy patients, because after all socialism is a zero sum game, despite all the assurances of “equality.”

The new move to strip away annual checkups is, ironically, an implicit critique of the system as a whole. Those that are struck with ill health cannot realistically get the treatment they need without penalizing people with clean bills of health.

Still, government bureaucrats are aggressively defending the new policy. "What does an annual visit prevent? Nothing," says Gaétan Barrette, Quebec’s health minister. "Prevention is about habits, about way of life. It's about eating well, it's about exercise, it's about caution; it's about that sort of thing." To be fair, Barrette isn’t exactly the most reputable medical expert. While he claims to be a radiologist, he “managed to confuse rare autoinflammatory diseases with BMW and Mercedes cars.”

Barrette’s own comments underscore the failures of socialized medicine. "Those who need visits, those who need access, they don't have access because those appointments are taken by those who do not need them," asserts the government minister. "It's not important for young people to go to an annual checkup every year.”

In a letter signed by 25 top pediatricians and doctors, Quebec’s new proposal is excoriated as potentially dangerous and harmful to children.

“The majority of heathcare expenditures are spent on conditions that are largely preventable," the physicians suggest."The penny-wise, pound-foolish approach by this Government is not only short-sighted as far as the health of the population of Quebec is concerned, but will ultimately fail to meet its objectives of cost savings."

Leslie Solomon, a family physician Montreal's Côte-Saint-Luc borough and one of the signatories of the letter, goes even further, "I don't think it's good for continuity of care for patients," she argues. "It's going to be very detrimental." Children, in particular, may be harmed as ailments go undiagnosed.
