BREAKING!!! Scientists, NASA: organic building materials of life found on dwarf planet Ceres!!!!

February 17, 2017 —Life, or at least its basic chemical parts, might actually be all around us.

NASA’s Dawn spacecraft has discovered organic molecules on Ceres, according to a paper published in the journal Science on Friday. These so-called “building blocks of life” appear to be native, forming naturally on the dwarf planet rather than being deposited by comets.

The find adds to a growing understanding that these compounds exist all over the solar system, from comets to the moons of Jupiter, widening the scope of our hunt for microscopic life.

“[Ceres] joins Mars and several satellites of the giant planets in the list of locations in the solar system that may harbor life,” the European Space Agency’s Michael Küppers, who was not involved in the study, wrote in a commentary.

The dwarf planet Ceres may seem to be little more than an asteroid. It has an inhospitable surface temperature of 100 degrees below zero by day and 225 below at night. But interest in the rocky, chilly little celestial body just heated up, reports Amina Khan for The Los Angeles Times. NASA’s Dawn mission has found evidence of organic molecules there.

In a new paper published in the journal Science, researchers describe organic compounds spotted by Dawn’s Visible and InfraRed Mapping Spectrometer instrument. The spectrometer can detect a range of wavelengths of light—some of which revealed the clear signatures of organic materials on the planet’s surface, especially in a crater called Ernutet.

The Dawn probe has been orbiting Ceres since 2015. It’s the inner solar system’s sole dwarf planet and the biggest object in the huge asteroid belt that sits between Mars and Jupiter. Ceres is a protoplanet—a body that seems to be slowly developing into a planet. That means that it’s a kind of look back in time for scientists, who hope to use their discoveries there to learn more about how other planets formed.

As Khan notes, it’s not yet clear what the organics are. The signature Dawn spotted appears to be one of aliphatic organic matter—chains of organic compounds similar to the carbon-based chemicals asphaltite and kerite. Those chemicals could be the mark of ancient life.

Why would you believe anything on msm?

that's true sometimes, but sometimes believing nothing on msm is just as problematic as believing everything. the key imho is being able to separate the BS from the important items.

Dawn discovers evidence for organic material on Ceres

NASA's Dawn mission has found evidence for organic material on Ceres, a dwarf planet and the largest body in the main asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. Scientists using the spacecraft's visible and infrared mapping spectrometer (VIR) detected the material in and around a northern-hemisphere crater called Ernutet. Organic molecules are interesting to scientists because they are necessary, though not sufficient, components of life on Earth.

The discovery adds to the growing list of bodies in the solar system where organics have been found. Organic compounds have been found in certain meteorites as well as inferred from telescopic observations of several asteroids. Ceres shares many commonalities with meteorites rich in water and organics - in particular, a meteorite group called carbonaceous chondrites. This discovery further strengthens the connection between Ceres, these meteorites and their parent bodies.

"This is the first clear detection of organic molecules from orbit on a main belt body," said Maria Cristina De Sanctis, lead author of the study, based at the National Institute of Astrophysics, Rome. The discovery is reported in the journal Science.

Data presented in the Science paper support the idea that the organic materials are native to Ceres. The carbonates and clays previously identified on Ceres provide evidence for chemical activity in the presence of water and heat. This raises the possibility that the organics were similarly processed in a warm water-rich environment.

That announcement is to do with "outside our solar system". Ceres is in our solar system

So basically, its a fake CGI production.

Ceres is NOT outside of the solar system So it should be something different.

The announcement is about the dwarf star TRAPPIST-1. They have discovered at least 7 Earth-sized planets orbiting it, most in the habitable zone.
