20th century fascism was a right wing reactionary phenomenon to the rise of working class communist populism. As an ideology it reframed the argument, you no longer worked for the furtherance of progressive ideology and the welfare of your fellow man. Quite the opposite, your labour was a means to advance traditionalist norms and hierarchies and to further advance the aims of the anti-communist state.

The main core difference as authoritarian ideologies would be that while socialism was dysgenic both in theory and in practice, fascism was very much concerned in the opposite, the eugenic (genetic) advancement of its people.

As a John Birch libertarian it would be far easier to sympathise or even respect the aims of a fascist state than the dysgenic clusterfuck called socialism.
