Will Tidying Up magically change my life?
Will it? Will putting all my belongings in a pile, picking out the best and chucking the rest, really make my life better?

Marie Kondo says so.

Youve heard of the Konmari method and the books Spark Joy and Tidying Up. Did you try it? Did it change your
life?

Or were you the same as you were before but with neater closets?

Do tell.

I've done it. I'm not 100% completely done with my house, but I've done enough in my home where it has made a difference. The major difference is that I have more time but I also spend less money. I followed the directions in her book to the letter, i wanted to see the full efficacy, or failure, but only if I did it her way.

Tidy House = Tidy Mind.

I can say for 100% sure that having a good clear out can be good for you.

The problem is it ether don't last or you end up being a tidy freak.

It feels good at the time ...The older you get the less you care.

As long as your house is clean and semi tidy then you have a good balance.

Hope that helps.

Did you do it in big sessions or little bites?

I was so pleased with my wardrobe (I dont wear many clothes so why have many clothes?) that I pulled out papers and somehow got distracted by cleaning a closet.

I kind of need to get back on track.

I like the effects but get overwjelmed by the process.

It gets kind of deep, too. Doesnt it?

Thanks. Ive never in my life been tidy and I have ADD. Id really like to see if I still have ADD in a tidied up home. Is it me or my clutter?

I do agree that semi clean (nothing smells bad!) and semi tidy (I know where most things can probably be found) is balanced.

Cleaning is therapeutic, when you can't fix anything in the world you can clean it. After finished cleaning it gives you a feeling of accomplishment since you have done something. Not only is it good for health reasons to live in a clean environment, but it shows you take pride in yourself by having the environment you live in tidy.

I agree. I just can't understand how many people don't do their own cleaning these days. Obviously there is only a therapeutic effect if you clean your own environment, not if you pay somebody else to do it for you.

I kind of liked my childhood when I came home to a clean house everyday. I didnt like my mom because she had disorders thst made her a bitch to me but I did like how clean and fresh the house was.

I love the Marriott. The best part is dropping off dirty clothes and having them appear in the closet cleaned.

I dont feel sorry for myself I have to clean up after my own self but I think it would be pretty therapeutic to have a clean house cleaned by someone else when I was out. Just saying.

Never heard of her - whoever

Messy areas cause stress - more stress for neat nicks - but stress for everyone

I am not a naturally neat person

But yes indeed tidying up is good for your mental health

It's the best gift you can do for a depressed person - help with the mess Ina non judge mental way

A dirty home is a sign of depression (messy acceptable - DIRTY is NoT)

I have been in a lot of homes - clean dirty and hoarder types.

A clean house sells for much much more.

And whether fair or not - people DO jUDGE you on the condition of your home.

I had a feng shui book and using it I created a much more functional peaceful space.

Get rid of as much as you can afford to sell not give away.

I will cook all day an all night - but the cleaning part is onerous

Some people like to clean

Some people like to cook

We all like to eat in a calm space

Unfortunately it doesn't clean itself

I wish I could trade cooking for cleaning

Some areas are supposed to be messy/ non auspicious
Garden compost, cleaning area, toilet, storage

Other areas should be productive / energetic
According to fungshooey

2 MAIN schools of Fung shooey

Direction sckool (My fav) & element skool (much more complicated)

Tell me your birth year
And out of the 8 cardinal directions
4 will be suitable for productivity
(sleep, rest, cooking etc)

when you are unwell and do not hv the strength, stamina, whatever to keep your environment as organized as you like it, it is hard when it is how you prefer to live and are used to order

and if you are an organized and ocd inclined type of person it pretty much is something one must do for oneself.

I like to fuck. I live alone and don't care about neat and clean, but if it'll get me more pussy, then I'll be neat.

The problem is that fags make stuff neat and clean, and I'm not gonna get mistaken for a fag. That's a guaranteed pussy-killer.

If I were more organized I wouldn't have something like five sets of hex keys...

Every time I need them I can't find them and run to the hardware store because it's easier to buy instead of find.

And don't get me started on tape measures...

You need at least two sets of hex keys, since the metric ones and the SAE don't cross over entirely. You also need backups in case you're in the middle of a job and one gets lost or broken. That's four sets already.

Tape measures just appear at Harbor Freight. Bring the right coupon.

Decluttering and organizing would likely make a real difference for your ADD. I'm extremely visual & a tad ADD/OCD- things being cluttered or visually distracted literally make it impossible for me to concentrate & can create agitation.
