Orion is different from apollo. This is because Apollo only had to transport 3 guys and their supplies to the moon and back. Orion is being designed to hold up to six people and take them a lot further than the moon!

Clearly Orion has a much tougher task. Bigger ship, bigger crew, supplies and equipment for a round trip of anything up to two years.

What worked for apollo won't work for for the bigger Orion and its lengthy times. That technology and the stuff used to build it went out of production decades ago anyway. For Orion therefore, evertything has to be developed and built from scratch using today's technology.

Because the audio is being recorded on Earth, there's no delay between what the astronauts say and what Mission Control says. But there'll be a 2.5 second delay between hearing what Mission Control says and hearing the response from the astronauts, and if you can find even a single example to the contrary, I'll shut up and go away. But you won't be able to.

The communications on both sides were instant.

No delay in comms whatsoever.
