BREAKING NEWS: Injured tourists and BBC film crew forced to flee as Mount Etna erupts.
Several tourists have been injured as Mount Etna erupted for the third time in just under three weeks, spitting molten lava nearly 650 feet into the sky above Sicily.
A BBC journalist and camera crew were caught in the huge explosion on Thursday.
'Lava flow mixed with steam - caused huge explosion - group pelted with boiling rocks and steam,' the BBC's global science correspondent, Rebecca Morelle, tweeted.
She reported an estimated eight people suffered head injuries, burns, cuts and bruises.

A BBC team and a number of tourists have suffered minor injuries after being caught up in an incident on the erupting volcano Mount Etna in Sicily.
"Many injured - some head injuries, burns, cuts and bruises," tweeted BBC science reporter Rebecca Morelle.
Lava flow mixed with steam had caused a huge explosion, which pelted the group with boiling rocks and steam, she said.
She said about eight people had been injured, with some evacuated from the mountain by rescue teams.

Several "idiots" you mean? If the damned thing had erupted a few times during the preceding weeks, I'd say these people deserved the reminder to stay clear of nature's violence when possible...

Lucky they weren't incinerated.

Looking at the sismo data it seems to be reducing a little. But not by much..

Couple of hours daylight left there then it might look good on the webcam if it's still spewing lava

being in an area with an unpredictable active volcano that's already blown? The STUPID is STUNNING. Maybe getting smacked in the head activated a few of their brain cells.

Well, a landslide following an eruption.
But Etna isn't that unstable at the moment. That risk would lie with Cumbre Vieja, Canary islands.
