They pay for things with your blood (blood sacrifice for energy).

That doesn't mean that things can't be influenced in a different fashion but ultimately doing such in the Spirit is making a deal with demons (using your energy and consent to the spiritual warfare) to get a desired result. The spiritual warfare is a blood sacrifice inside yourself that doesn't kill you (energy extraction).

I can be a literalist too; being Holy doesn't mean doing blood sacrifices to "satan" (machine) to put socks in stores. It's a duality for one result which is "shuffling around energy" (usually not their own); I believe the witches even say this...this is what they mean using your energy to get something from the machine.
