RFID is passively powered. An electrical field is presented to the device and it induces power which then powers the emitting part of the circuit in the RFID. There is no on-board power source for RFID.

So it can't just broadcast endlessly without some form of external power....meaning strong electrical field. Which isn't something that is just anywhere. And the power of the field drops sharply with distance. Thats why most RFID devices requires the chip and the scanner to be within inches of each other. You do get some high powered ones, like your Toll Tag, but there is significant infrastructure involved in that.

I'm so very sorry for her but am grateful for the doctor to check it out instead of tossing her into some type of involuntary commitment. She chose her doctor wisely.
