Seems to me you once again are reading what you want into what the Pentagon is actually saying...not suprising, though...most conspiracy theorists see things where they are not, anyway...

Sometimes a tree really is just that: a tree.

BTW, you have just proved once again my point about "your inflated opinion of yourself"...

Re: ~FOR ANYONE GOING TO IRAQ~Did you Know This is What it LOOKS LIKE ?~
OK; first of all, shouldn't your scoreboard read...

DU = Hazard = 1
SHR the nobody = 0

* Hazzard spelled with 2 Z's is only valid as in the mythical county in Georgia... home of the Dukes, Sherrif Coltrane, Boss Hogg...

Second of all, I don't care what kind of degree Doug Rokke has. He was put in charge of cleaning up the DU after the first Gulf War and he became very sick (still is). A lot of his team has died. He's stated on numerous occasions that they would be wearing gas masks and would still be able to smell the uranium as they breathed it in. I believe Doug Rokke who actually was there and must have known something about DU in order to be placed in charge of the cleanup project over someone like SHR.

Really? in charge of the entire clean up project? Wow, quite an honor for a mere Lieutenant with only a 68B MOS. I assume you know what that means because I am assuming you have reviewed his military record, like I have, and also saw the memo to other 68B's, 3 Capt's, that were deployed to Iraq by Col. C.E. Day, the person who actually was in charge of some of the medical teams that were sent there, instructing them and I quote "The 12th PVNTMED is over there now. 1Lt Rokke is the 68B with that unit. The odds are very good that he knows little to nothing about the main 68B issues facing you all, so please try to locate him, and bring him up to speed." in his letter to these Capt's regarding DU, dated 12 Dec 90 ? What did you think of that? And what did you think of the fact that Maj Rokke only served 7 months 11 days active duty total as per his Form DD-214 discharge papers that I'm sure you also reviewed, like I have, and the rest was spent as an instructor in the Army Reserve? I guess maybe he just was really really fast and heading up the entire clean up operation.

I can't even list how many other inconsistencies there were in those videos like the 7.62mm 50 cal small arms DU rounds and Clinton wanting to enact Martial law, but getting thwarted somehow, and of course we were using Chemical and biological weapons as well....Oh really??? AJ says! Uh uh Uh yeah, sure, why not, fully uh verified, uh fully...Sure it is, LOL and this is the guy you want to defend the credibility of? I won't even go into how repugnant it was to hear Alex say that the Army has lowered it's standards to Moron level, that particularly made we want to puke. And all ya got out of the post that I presented was Uh, ya hit der Z twice, huh huh, LMFAO! Zero rebuttal of dick on point.

Nothing to say about:

The amount of respirable dust that can be contained in the lungs at any one time is limited to less than a gram. If this was all DU, it would be equivalent to only about 6 times the radioactivity of naturally occurring potassium-40 in our bodies.

or:

The possible effects of DU have already been extensively studied, along with other possible contributors to "Gulf War sickness" such as chemical and biological agents, oil well fires, pesticides, pyridostigmine bromide, immunisations, infectious diseases and stress. A British evaluation (see www.mod.uk/policy/gulfwar/info/du.htm), updated to February 1999, concludes:

"In the light of the known exposures to uranium in the uranium industry during and after World War II it would seem unlikely that the hazards of uranium have been underestimated. To date there is no indication that harmful overexposures to DU with respect to chemical toxicology or radioactivity have occurred either at the UK ranges or in the Gulf conflict."

and those are only two points, there were more and yet nothing. It will only get worse from here on out, I suggest you guys really try harder this time and really try extra really hard to dispute one point I present. So far other than the credibility of your Doctor of education who's dissertation was on the "perceived physics concepts required to teach vocational school", which I also read BTW, is the only issue with any substance I've seen brought up here, the "it's Toxic", "it's deadly", Ahhhhhhhhh!!!!! doesn't cut it, water is deadly, nail polish remover is toxic, it's really not enough of an argument. Here, I will help you, read up about it, in the meantime.

DU = Hazzzard 0
SHR the nobody 2

Since depleted uranium is weakly radioactive, the public has been
concerned about the possiblility of adverse health effects from DU. DU
is a heavy metal, and like all heavy metals such as mercury and lead,
is toxic. However, except in certain very unusual situations, it is the
chemical toxicity and not the radioactivity that is of concern. And,
from a chemical toxicity standpoint, uranium is on the same order of
toxicity as lead. Largely from work with animals along with a few
instances in which humans inhaled very large amounts of uranium, the
chemical toxicity of uranium is known to produce minor effects on the
kidney, which in humans who have suffered large acute exposures have
been transitory and wholly reversible. Because depleted and natural
uranium are only weakly radioactive, radiological effects from ingested
or inhaled uranium have not been detected in humans.

Human experience with uranium has spanned more than 200 years. In the
early part of the twentieth century, uranium was used therapeutically
as a treatment for diabetes, and persons so treated were administered
relatively large amounts of uranium by mouth. Tens of thousands of
persons have worked in the uranium industry over the past several
decades, and have been followed up and studied extensively as have
populations in Canada and elsewhere who have high levels of uranium in
their drinking water. Results of these studies have not revealed any
ill health in these populations that is attributable to the intake of
uranium. This is not surprising, as the risk from the radiation dose
from uranium is far overshadowed by its potential chemical toxicity,
and intakes of uranium of sufficient magnitude to produce chemotoxic
effects are unlikely in and of themselves. Any such effects from
ingestion or inhalation of uranium would likely manifest themselves
first in the form of minor effects associated with the kidneys.
That military personnel and others who may have had contact with
depleted uranium from munitions are suffering from various illnesses is
not in dispute. That their illnesses are attributable to their exposure
to uranium is very, very unlikely.
Health physicists are deeply concerned with the public health and
welfare, and as experts in radiation and its effects on people and the
environment, are quite aware that something other than exposure to
uranium is the cause of the illnesses suffered by those who have had
contact with depleted uranium from munitions. A truly enormous body of
scientific data shows that it is virtually impossible for uranium to be
the cause of their illnesses. Despite this body of scientific data to
the contrary, misguided or unknowing people continue to allege that the
depleted uranium, and specifically the radioactivity associated with
the depleted uranium is the cause of these illness. This is indeed
unfortunate, for health physicists and other scientists and physicians
already know that depleted uranium is not the cause of these illnesses
and thus any investigations into the cause of these illnesses should
focus on other possible causes.

If we are to offer any measure of relief or solace to these suffering
people, and to gain some important additional knowledge of the cause of
their illness, we should not waste our valuable and limited energies,
resources, and time attempting to point the finger at depleted uranium
as the culprit, when it is already known that uranium is almost
certainly not the cause of the problem.
With respect to reactions with the soil, in time depleted uranium will
likely leach into the soil and become mixed with it. It will for all
practical purposes be chemically indistinguishable from the natural
uranium that is already present in the soil all over the earth. One
could create all kinds of scenarios, but probably the best way to think
about DU in the soil is to compare it with lead. Because lead and
uranium are so similar from a toxicological standpoint, the concerns
are about the same.

Absorption of depleted uranium

About 98% of uranium entering the body via ingestion is not absorbed, but is eliminated via the faeces. Typical gut absorption rates for uranium in food and water are about 2% for soluble and about 0.2% for insoluble uranium compounds.
The fraction of uranium absorbed into the blood is generally greater following inhalation than following ingestion of the same chemical form. The fraction will also depend on the particle size distribution. For some soluble forms, more than 20% of the inhaled material could be absorbed into blood.
Of the uranium that is absorbed into the blood, approximately 70% will be filtered by the kidney and excreted in the urine within 24 hours; this amount increases to 90% within a few days.
Potential health effects of exposure to depleted uranium

In the kidneys, the proximal tubules (the main filtering component of the kidney) are considered to be the main site of potential damage from chemical toxicity of uranium. There is limited information from human studies indicating that the severity of effects on kidney function and the time taken for renal function to return to normal both increase with the level of uranium exposure.
In a number of studies on uranium miners, an increased risk of lung cancer was demonstrated, but this has been attributed to exposure from radon decay products. Lung tissue damage is possible leading to a risk of lung cancer that increases with increasing radiation dose. However, because DU is only weakly radioactive, very large amounts of dust (on the order of grams) would have to be inhaled for the additional risk of lung cancer to be detectable in an exposed group. Risks for other radiation-induced cancers, including leukaemia, are considered to be very much lower than for lung cancer.
Erythema (superficial inflammation of the skin) or other effects on the skin are unlikely to occur even if DU is held against the skin for long periods (weeks).
No consistent or confirmed adverse chemical effects of uranium have been reported for the skeleton or liver.
No reproductive or developmental effects have been reported in humans.
Although uranium released from embedded fragments may accumulate in the central nervous system (CNS) tissue, and some animal and human studies are suggestive of effects on CNS function, it is difficult to draw firm conclusions from the few studies reported.

Yum Yum! I want some of that YUMMY DU! It sounds REALLY yummy!

I remember working in a paper mill a few years back. In the warehouse, there was LOADS of dust, naturally, so all us warehouse workers complained about it!

Know what the Health and Safety guy said?

''It's OK boys, the dust FEEDS you! It won't do you any harm!''

I live in the UK, and YES you guessed it, I was working for an American company, called Georgia Pacific!

and another thing in response to Ani's accusations...
what exactly is wrong with having a high opinion of yourself ?
Especially if you do have talents developed and you give yourself acknowledgement for it ?

Are we supposed to walk around dragging our head on the floor feeling worthless ?!

Maybe if MORE People did have higher opinions of Themself,
they would be far less inclined
to being talked into becoming living sacrifices
for some corporate greed monger's war ambitions....

Imagine that....
