Unfortunately, all geniuses are named by non-geniuses. I was born with an extraordinary capacity to think, and have been called a 'genius' thousands of times in my life. When people use the word, it is through their own lens as to what that words means to them and how it comports with their perception of someone.

I have accomplished some truly remarkable things in my career. I've solved complicated problems in days that entire teams of engineers could not solve in decades, or environmental problems that were deemed hopeless, or radiologic problems that were considered too dangerous to cope with. However, in my opinion, the greatest reason people call me a genius is simply because they don't feel threatened by me when they don't understand something. I do not make someone 'pay a penalty' when they miss a clue, and I always talk up to people and not down. When you make others feel 'smart'(when they know you don't have to), they respect that.

What made people believe that Einstein was a "genius" wasn't his achievements in physics, it was that he was approachable by not only his peers, but the general public as well. Had Einstein been a prick, he would have been scorned and forgotten the day after he died.

Didn't you just do the same thing that you supposedly excoriate against?

That could only be true if you felt threatened by me, but did I make you feel threatened? You're better than that, don't put yourself down!

No, sir...not threatened. Just wondering if others might take your impressive achievements as threatening. It's a difficult and fine line speaking about yourself. You did well and I was projectecting what someone else, perhaps, less confident, might get out of reading your paragraphs.

Excellent, you're my kind of person. I've always said that an ounce of social skill is worth a pound of intellect and those are the people I admire, not people like me.

In regards to what some people take offense to; yes, a small minority of folks through no fault of their own. We do not live in a very socially developed world, we still educate people through humiliation and it starts in childhood. A child who was humiliated every time he tried expressed a higher thought, will become an adult that will 'knee-jerk' into resentment whenever someone makes a sophisticated statement or comment. This is what I typically find in engineers; every time they proposed a solution in college, the professor made them feel stupid, so they generally try to keep their mouth shut whenever they're in a critical forum. In my clinics, I would always break that down and within around 15 minutes, everybody in the room is feeling and learning how to think like a 'genius,' instead of someone's pissing post.
