Source: "Ontario basic income pilot project to launch in Hamilton, Lindsay and Thunder Bay" [link to www.cbc.ca] Discussion: A person working full time at minimum wage in Ontario earns: $1,976 per month before taxes...or $1,284 after tax (take home pay). A single person on welfare in Ontario gets $794 Tax Free (take home pay). The Ontario Government is "testing" the idea that....the government gives the welfare single person an extra $490 per month (tax free, of course!!!) to make sure the welfare person is getting as much as the working person on minimum wage....with the idea that it will spur them to get a job and be a productive member of society. Yeah....that's gonna work!!!!.... I can stay home and play video games, drink beer, and smoke pot - OR - I can get a job at McDonalds. DUH???? Which one would you take???? Thus: Welfare is now a viable career choice here in Ontario, Canada. And wait....there's more! We have FREE health care here!!! And wait....there's more! Pot will be legal to buy and grow in Canada next summer!!! No wonder our immigration office is swamped with applications! Canada....the land of the free. Here in our neck of the country, unless you want to work more than you live, it's hard to find decent paying places. They slowly ante up, while everything else goes sky high. If it weren't for family 'n friends I know a lot of people who couldn't even make it to work with all the fees on everything you do or need. After rent 'n bills they don't have much for a vehicle, repairs, insurance, gas n then after all that food. My penny worth of thoughts anyway.. |
