Yes, you do. Define "composite." If by composite you mean composed of images shot through red green and blue filters, then I have news for you. Every digital photograph you have ever taken with a digital camera is a composite. They all use pixels filtered for various colors of light and then combine those images. In consumer cameras this process is hidden from the user and done internally in the camera. The images I linked to are a "composite" in that sense, but so are the images from the cell phone in your pocket.

Wrong. It's an image designed to represent what a conventional camera would produce. It's not the same kind of camera you have in your cell phone, obviously. Neither are most astronomical CCDs. But the filters used and data processing can be done in such a way as to produce an image that represents what a normal camera would see. It's no different with my own astrophotography. Does that mean my images are fakes or just art? Nope.
