I'm stuck on a big decision. Where are the best places to live? | |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 68516782 Arizona meh too hot and dry Colorado has potential California near the Sierras is very very nice Good luck If money is a concern, rule out the entire state of California. We have the highest income tax in the country, not to mention high taxes on everything else. Food is expensive, gas is expensive, and Asshole Brown just got another tax hike passed effective November (>40% gas tax increase + registration increase). Maybe try the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe, then drive over whenever you desire? |

Seldom ever see snow, shorts and t-shirt most of the year but not as hot as Florida. Jobs could be better but cost of living is great. The Sea Food Capital Of South Carolina Great food, nature and fishing. [link to murrellsinletsc.com] Adding it to my research list. Thanks! |

I'm was trying to respond to every post, but feel like I was saying the same thing. This is all very helpful for me right now. I needed to get out of my own head and hear some other thoughts. |

Highly recommended. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72211474 Thanks! It was a great suggestion. I'd never heard of it but had a map generated from a free service. I haven't figured out how to interpret it yet. [link to imgur.com] That's what I said...I cannot understand the map. The site I sent you are the original astro-carto-graphy astrologers, I believe. I have called them a few times, and sometimes one of them are out of the country teaching others astro-carto-graphy. Karen and Robert...husband and wife team. Nice people. I had also used them to select where, in the USA, was the best location for major surgery for a loved one last year. I gave them three choices of hospital locations: one on the east coast, one on the west coast and one in the midwest. They chose the one in the midwest. Karen also helped me with the month and day to have it done. Happy to say, the surgery was successful! Last Edited by nutmeg on 05/03/2017 09:21 PM |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 41123100 United States 05/03/2017 09:37 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | No work in Sedona except for the tourist shops and restaurants, business owners are assholes, rent is high 1000+ for an apartment, town is small and closes down by 9pm every night, no nightlife, after you hike every rock you will have nothing to do but drive to Flagstaff or Phoenix, and you will have to anyway to shop for necessities. The New Age industry will get old quick, lots of scam artists selling painted rocks and tarot readings, lots of flakes that are half nuts one step from jumping off a bridge, big divide between the comfy retirees running the town, and the broke spiritualists trying to survive on the scraps. In general the town attracts undesirables and tourists. Any of the New Age workers that are managing to steal a buck are egomaniacs and narcissists. If you are competition, they will pray you starve in the streets or fall off a cliff. Bad juju in Sedona, but you won't know it till you live there for a bit. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1427345 Northern Mariana Islands 05/03/2017 11:00 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Micronesia? How is life there? I look at the jobs on Kwajalein Atoll from time to time. I think I would be happy with island life. Life there must be very isolated, what kinda jobs are there? CNMI is going gangbusters with casinos. Taxes are low, but the place is kinda dysfunctional since the Typhoon wiped out cable internet which hosted the garagesale site where you could buy, sell and find places to live. Craig's list only has Guam, but CNMI is much nicer. Tourism is the main industry and they're required to hire America first, at least in theory. |

[link to www.areavibes.com] I was just like you earlier this year. It took me about two long months of research until I finally found a wonderful town. Zero crime, on the lake, and the rent here is probably the cheapest in the US. I went with Rogers City Michigan and I couldn't be any more happier with my new life. Best of luck to you on this as well. :) |

Mike Ehrmantraut User ID: 19239803 United States 01/01/2018 04:42 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm looking for a new place to live. I'm not tied to any particular location right now and can go almost anywhere in the US or somewhere that will give me a work visa. Quoting: LucyAnna Here are some of the qualities I want: English speaking area somewhere where I won't have to spend more than a total of 30 minutes in traffic each day Intelligent and peaceful people Clean and not too crowded Good standard of living Low crime rate Natural beauty I don't have very much money, so it needs to be a place that is affordable enough for me to get there, rent a place to live while I get established, and maintain my life on a normal working salary. Here are some places I'm curious about: Sedona Arizona Santa Fe New Mexico Northern California Boulder Colorado Missoula Montana Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands I'm open to other places as well. I'm sure there are great places out there that I have never heard of. This is a big decision for me to make and I could use some input at this point. I know that there is somewhere out there for me. Do you know anything about the places on my list? Maybe you know about a wonderful place that I've never heard of? I don't know about Missoula or Kweajalein but the rest of those places on your list are far from affordable. No matter where you go, there are going to be pros and cons. I guess the objective is to find a place that has a comfortable balance of what you're looking for. I personally found that balance in Tucson Arizona. I look at the jobs on Kwajalein Atoll from time to time. I think I would be happy with island life. Some areas of New Zealand are really quite nice. Cost of living can be high in some areas, and some areas more crime, do your research. (I've lived in mid-west and west coast U.S.) Yes, they speak English here. No critters like snakes, and few bugs, not too hot or humid, and not too cold in most areas. Easy to make friends. |
Epic Beard Guy User ID: 69561889 United States 01/02/2018 08:53 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I would not recommend Boulder to anyone that is not afflicted with terminal liberalism. Boulder was a socialist town back in the 1970s, and it just keeps getting worse. The Rocky Mtns are the most beautiful place on Earth. I live in SE Wyoming, and love it. The only draw back is the wind. If you live in the mountains, you need to know the wind blows, sometimes very hard. Other than that, the weather is great. We get snow, but it doesn't stay. Usually the snow is gone with a couple of days. There is no traffic problem, as long as you stay away from the Colorado front range (Colorado Springs to Ft Collins). Cheyenne is not far from where I live, and that's where I go to shop. It has the small town feel, but is big enough to have stores that carry what you need. If you want to live in a city, that's where I would go. If you need to be surrounded by more people, Ft Collins or Loveland are nice, just kinda' crowded. If you want to get farther from the big cities you could go farther up the side of the mountains, or go down to the Nebraska panhandle. Nebraska is better for preppers because there is more water, and anything will grow there. The panhandle is all small towns and good people. Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.
