Message Subject Microsoft issues ‘highly unusual’ Windows XP patch to prevent massive ransomware attack

The XP patch has been available to those on extended support.
They just made it publicly available now, too.
With up to 140,000,000 million XP workstations still running, it is the right thing to do (in their mind mostly for PR purposes).

If you are running XP and worried about this single patch being the one that spies on you... think of the hundreds you have not had installed since support ended.
That is a large number of vulnerabilities with countless exploits.

I do not expect the next ransomware attack to be as nice.
Expect an 0-Day to appear at some point that gets used for the same purpose.
This is still the same poorly-coded operating system that has been down this road many times.
