OK Son graduated high school and can't find a job.... NOW WHAT???

For all of those touting trade school...that isn't free either.

My niece has just enrolled into beauty school. It's a 6 month program. When she *graduates* she still won't be able to practice because she has to put in FREE hours to get certified. When it's all said and done her bill for *TRADE SCHOOL* will be close to $40,000 PLUS interest.

Trade school isn't as cheap as it used to be.

A high school diploma is only good for shit like cooking hamburgers at McDonald's.

when i watch videos on certain websites, the mom is always walking in on her son being entertained by his gf performing certain, shall i say, oral favours, and usually the mom decides to intervene and teach the young gf hows its done.... perhaps you can try something like that for extra cash?

My daughter and Son in law were in the same boat in 2011. Both went to temporary agencies. Her first job hired her and now she is CEO earning 75k a year. His was at a bank and he is still with them earning half what she is. Both are very happy.

I hate to break it to you but there is no such as "welfare" for single men. Even for women with children it doesn't amount to much.

I've been told to shovel shit or start my own company. The possibilities are endless.

They're always hiring. If you're a decent worker they'll give you a raise pretty quickly.

It's a start. They train you and you learn how to work in the real world with minimum pressure. Work is good, regardless of where and when. No one is above working, even if it's a McD's or Burger King, or whatever.

I have two dogs, and I'd probably pay someone to clean up a little in the back yard.

BTW, fast food, box stores and even restaurant dish washers....they ALL now only take online applications and résumés.

The days of walking in, shaking the hand of a manager, being clean,polite, making an impression....yea so long long long gone.

All they see is text on a computer screen showing experience.

Then it is decided if they will be called in,which he isn't since he has no experience going against adults with years if experience, even cooking fries.

Times changed in the job market.

Maybe he should go to college.

Years of volunteer work don't even get you calls for interviews anymore.

My son has more volunteer hours than you can imagine. Years worth...it does him NO GOOD. Still no calls for interviews.

He should learn web design and be his own boss. Here's what he needs:

- business license
- laptop computer
- professional looking website
- savings account for taxes

Required skills:

- strong business ethics
- ability to map out an entire project
- ability to stay well-organized
- excellent written and verbal communication
- installing and configuring CMSs such as WordPress and Joomla
- installing and configuring common plugins such as Magento or WooCommerce
- graphics editing
- SEO basics
- social media integration
- e-commerce basics (i.e. configuring shopping carts, payment gateways, shopping site API keys)

He should focus on small businesses and organizations. Charge $700-$900 for a brochure site and $1200+ for an e-commerce site. Always do half up front, half at the end. He can start with one per month as he's learning everything and then work up to one per week. What he doesn't know, he can learn from reading 'Web Design for Dummies' and YouTube video tutorials.

He can meet with prospective clients at a coffee shop, nice restaurant or hotel lobby until he can afford an office.

He'll want to always create client accounts (web hosting, domain registrar, social media, etc.) with clients' info to avoid big problems. Also, at the end of a project, he'll need to give the client a list of all relevant account passwords and login URLs, as well as to walk the client through managing everything. Writing a step-by-step guide for basic edits and updates is a good idea.

And I even mentioned in an earlier post that in some states volunteers are not even needed. Yes it's true, with so many out of work and trying to keep skills sharp,AND others allowing family or friends the positions, insurance needed to actually cover volunteers you can't even give your time away for free.

The field has changed dramatically. Either you need close family or friends in a business, former military with close friends in a government job who create a job just for you, you speak native fluent spanish or start your own business or go military.

I find it hard to believe. There are jobs out there, he's just got to look. They may not be as "glamorous" as others, but working outside cutting yards, doing flower beds, road work, etc.
