In June of 1972, Woodward and Bernstein doggedly pursued Watergate, but the real story has never been told because it lies, not in the constant "scoops" that were exposed, but in the successful cover-up that has kept the public in the dark about Richard Nixon's, illustrious criminal career - a rather obsessive occupation that preceded and survived hs resignation in 1974.

Bob Woodward is a lifelong Republican, Bernstein is a college dropout, and together, they created the mythology that currently dominates.

The biggest myth of course, is that "it's not the crime, it's the cover up" and the reason for that is that is because the actual magnitude of Richard Nixon's crimes were never exposed.

Bob Woodward was always quite casual about the course of the Watergate scandal, and on July 9, 1974 he said, "The story has gone way beyond what we really wrote, predicted or had any notion of. We have no stake in the eventual outcome of establishing the guilt of the President."

There is no question that Regardless, the evidence against Richard Nixon was overwhelming enough to call him an unindicted conspirator and he resigned because if the entire truth was ever exposed Nixon would have been linked to the assassination of president John F. Kennedy.

I am not the only one who has linked Nixon to that, and if you would like the historical context which exposes that involvement, you ought to read the book, Preserving Their Legacy, by Mat Wilson.
