Another option is PowerBanks that use 18650 batteries, preferably the ones that come empty, but you can make it work with the ones you need to crack open and remove the (dead) existing batteries.

the 18650 batteries (people who know this stuff say these are called "cells") are the ones used in laptop computers. If you live in a town with more than 50,000 people, you have enough laptops laying around to keep your phone fully charged for at least a year or two. Crack open their batteries and remove the cells.
