Tiny houses are designed to maximize space. These hovels are part of the stack 'em and pack 'em urban planning system that liberals want in the cities while the wide open spaces belong only to them. I don't even want to think about what happens when the toilet backs up. poop

Pay is sub-par. Promotions are primarily time based rather than merit based. However you'd best toe the party line. If you don't parrot the platform, you will be stuck in the lower worker caste. But even then it's okay because nearly all of your creature comforts are met by the government.

Not big fans of military huh? Probably think society is communism too? Why you bad mofo's using computers? They are the result of stability provided through society and military strength. Same as cars, cell phones, clean water. All yucky communist things cause people work together to create them.

Re: Boxed In: Life Inside The 'Coffin Cubicles' of Hong Kong - In Pictures
YAWN..... What bullshit.

I used to live in Hong Kong in Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, just up Nathan Road from Salisbury
Garden. I could walk to the waterfront of Victoria Harbor in about 5 min.

YES, there are these small cubicle dwellings.

NO, they are not the norm.

Aside from the wealthy, most apartments and condos in Hong Kong are much smaller than
what we are used to in N. America, but they are much more spacious than what is shown in
those pics.

The issue is available space, not affordable housing.

Like Tokyo, there is little room available to spread laterally or to even undertake even new
construction. If there is new construction, it is usually on a spot where a building previously
existed.

The only alternative is to build higher UP, which is why all of Hong Kong is covered with towers.

Hong Kong is one of the most densely populated places on the planet. There are simply more
people wanting to live there then there are available, reasonably priced accommodations. As
HK is now part of China, the problem is dramatically magnified as HK operates under a different,
more open economic system ('one country, two systems' as the saying goes.) So prices go up and
space goes down.

None of these people are forced to live in those conditions. If they don't like it, THEY MOVE.

If they cannot afford to move to a larger place, well.. tough shit. That is part of living in
a big city. And if they do move, there is a line around the block of people willing to live in
those spaces until they can afford to pay for a larger place.

Further, if one is willing to live outside of the main business districts, you can find excellent
accommodations at affordable prices. The only drawback is the commute.

If the opportunity presented itself, I would move back to Hong Kong tomorrow.

It is an absolutely amazing place (which is why so many people want to live there).

If you are interested in this....check out Kowloon's "forbidden city" its like a ghetto compacted together....the triads run the place, cops won't enter.....you need a guide to get around because the passages and corridors change....

Its pretty amazing....resembles the borg cube....
