Which is a better water heater rheem or bradford white?

I've had a Bradford White for 6 years now, so far so good.

Though I notice on one side where the cold water input connects to the "nipple" it is badly corroded -- I guess due to the sacrificial anode ?

I've heard bad things about Rheem too .. so hard to decide based on reviews ...

I do know to stay away from Whirlpool and the other cheap ones at the big box stores

Forgot to add, 20 years is great, but don't expect that with the newers ones ...

Bradford and White made in Middleville MI good company good people. Great little town.

I'd have your husband get one at Home Depot and just do it himself.

Also, I wouldn't pay a plumber to do it -- it's so easy a caveman could put in a water heater.

Take the $350 to $500 you'll save and buy something nice with it ...

And keep the temp turned down -- 120 degrees is plenty hot

I'd keep it even lower, but I've heard Legionaire's disease bacteria will grow if you don't keep it at at least 120

If you plan to stay in the same home for a few more years, you might want to spend a little more and get a tankless. I've read that they are really good, and will also add to resale value of your home.

Yeah i caught that too...i dont do plumbing i cant solder worth shit and its a gas heater also so better safe than sorry.im buying the heater outright and gone jus have the plumber install it that way igots a warrenty might notbe worth shit but peace of mind goes a long way.

you don't need to solder ... just apply pipe dope and turn a pipe wrench to make three connections (two water, one gas) ...

I paid once, then did it myself the second time, was soooo easy ...

plenty of vids on youtube to show you how to do it -- but if you want to pay, that's your choice ...

I was worried about the gas thing too, that it might leak ... you just apply "pipe dope" to the threads, or sealant tape ... then use a wrench to tighten the connection

it won't leak, unless you put it on cross-threaded -- and if it does, you'll know right away by the smell

just make sure you "bleed" the air out of the natural gas line first though (open the valve and let it run a few seconds to get the air out)

My town needs permits for any gas fixtures so I also used a gasfitter/plumber to install mine. Don't take it too bad haha. My previous water heater lasted 33 years. I hope my new one (Bradford White) lasts half as long. Everything new is shit garbage these days. I wouldn't bank on anything lasting more than 12 years anymore..

Does your plumber have a Bradford in stock and need to get rid of it? I'd find that out.

All of the tanks are made by either State or Rudd. All of the companies just put their own name on the tanks. Find the best price and warranty and you are golden. I have been in the wholesale plumbing and heating biz for 50 years.

Flush it twice a year to get the sediment out. More if on a well.

Change anode after 4-5 years, sooner if on well water.
Then you know what to expect. Use sausage anodes when replacing. You most likely will not have clearance to put a solid anode back in.

i changed an anode out once.i had to buy a socket.get the longest cheater pipe i could find and have another person bear hug the tank.they use pipe dope and a gorilla to install them anodes.its possible but wow!

That's very rare to have happen, you'd have to have the pressure relief valve fail , plus have the thermostat fail, and have shutoffs on both sides turned off -- all at the same time

Then it might shoot through your roof 200 ft into the air
