Coincidence? I've just got back from a friends house who lives near me but under a different council and she rents one of their properties.

On Friday she got a letter from her social housing landlord to say they will be doing an electrical safety check in her home and it will take approximately 4 hours. The bottom of the letter it says faulty or untested installations can cause damage to property or even serious injury.

This is the first time such a check has been carried out in the house and for 4 hours apart from the usual boiler and smoke alarm annual tests they do.

Am I jumping to conclusions by thinking this new 4 hour electric check has something to do with councils shitting themselves because of the London tower block fire.

Has anyone else who rents council property had a similar letter.

Aye they are panicking, we had a check recently ourselves prior to this fire our property is only 2 years old though so we are lucky on that front as within that time this property has undergone various inspections as it's passed hands from contractor to landlord, which have also carried out their own checks.

There will likely be a push to check all properties within social housing and I wouldn't be surprised if it would be added to private landlord legislative licensing requirements either.

These checks the council are doing appear to be very prompt and urgent as she lives in a normal terraced house and not a block of flats or a tower which I thought would have been their first priority.
