No one should be paid as much as someone with a bachelors degree or more for a starter job. Mcdonalds isnt meant to support a family.

You shouldn't get paid as much as someone who busted their hump studying and working hard for years getting a bachelors or masters degree for flipping hamburgers. Mcdonalds is meant to be a persons first job to help them advance to a better job. Its not meant to support a family. Theyll be all replaced with robots eventually for demanding 15 dollars an hour to do work any idiot off the street can do.

These days you need a degree to be a data entry robot...a degree doesn't mean you are smarter or have a smarter job, it simply means you paid to be indoctrinated.

True, plus in NY they are now giving free collage to any state or SUNY school starting next year. As a business owner, all resumes with either of those schools will go directly into the shredder as they have become a 4 year extension of highschool in my eyes not a real degree. I'm not the only one who thinks this way by a long shot, those degrees are for fast food managers.

Why not you spoiled rich brat. Bill Gates never finished his degree. What makes you so entitled. I make more than doctors and lawyers, live wherever I want. Oh I worked in the trades. What does that peace of paper mean , your smarter than me. Well I earn between 1000 to 3000 dollars per hour without a degree.

I work 15 hours a week and I have friends with a shingle earning 40 k a year.

Oh forgot to tell you I worked for 20 years making 75k a year. I might as well have gotten two PHD's. I save my clients millions of dollars a year.

So take your degree and stuff it.

BTW work is honorable. It does not matter what you do or how much you make . At the end of the day, do you go home and are grateful for what you have? That truly is all that matters.

But you're using logic, OP, and there is no place for logic in this modern day and age.

He's not really talking about you. Do you work at McDonald's? Do you work a minimum wage job? Do you think some pimply faced 20 year old ought to get paid the same as somebody who has an education?

Work is work. Hard work is more honourable than pencil pushing. We wouldn't have these problems if we didn't allow our corporations to run this nation while sending the factory jobs over the waves. Cause and effect. Trickle down economics.

Re: No one should be paid as much as someone with a bachelors degree or more for a starter job. Mcdonalds isnt meant to support a family.
OP is right only he isn't using critical thinking along with the his logical analysis. The term minimum wage is most definitely meant to support a family's humble existence with a minimal level of consumption.

This why the government originally implemented the "minimum wage" into law to make sure employers paid their employees a livable wage for minimal level of consumption.

A living wage- The minimum income necessary for a worker to meet their basic needs. Changes in politics, policies and perspective have morphed the two terms when then were once considered two parts of the whole.

Wages became stagnant starting around the late 1970's while inflation continued to rise and wages stayed the same. Again corporations and wealthy business owners with money and persuasion lobbied to only have to pay a price floor for labor as supposed to a livable one. Like anything else the narrative was guided and changed to have two distinct meanings for concepts that were once based off of one another...

So in short Minimum wage with inflation calculated into should be roughly $15-16 an hour. I'm using today's terminology for minimum wage vs. Living wage for this comparison too. The funny thing is, is that the government even openly admits this on their labor and statistics website when you compare hourly wages from the early 1970's and back before wages stagnated. My father actually made $2.00 hr at a McDonald's style restaurant in 1963 when he said the minimum wage was $1.50 at the time, but as you know from growing up no one ever get's hired on at the minimum wage your always hired on 50 cents to a dollar more.

Take a look at the CPI Inflation calculator to see what the buying power that $2.00 would get you today back in 1963. [link to www.bls.gov (secure)]

It would have gotten you $16.00 by today's standard for working in a McDonald's style restaurant back then. So to make a long story short. Yes, minimum wage should be around $15.00-$16.00 an hour at a McDonald's and skilled labors should see their wage scale accordingly to based on inflation. So myself as a RN now making $35.00 an hour should really be making close to $50.00 to equal the buying power Americans once had long ago...

And all that is how you get inflation. Simple economics. You may THINK you're "entitled" to $50 an hour, but then that loaf of bread will go up to $6.00 and gas will go to $5.00 a gallon. Plus, you try to make employers pay a minimum wage they can't afford, they'll just fire workers and give the remaining employees their work. Or install robots. Why can't you people friggin' understand that?

The simple fact of the matter is that things are too expensive here, mostly due to .gov regulations.

$35,000 cars?

are you fucking kidding me? They used to be $300, then $3000 for a new car.

minimum wage is only a little over double what it was 45 years ago.

prices are a hell of a lot higher than double.

That's not up to you to decide.

You don't want people on welfare yet you don't want them to have a salary they can live on ? Robots are replacing surgeons you idiot! They're not just replacing fast food workers. They will replace every job soon. The next generation doesn't have to grow up earning a measly $7/hr job, let them have $15. Just because people start off w/a shitty paycheck doesn't mean it was right.

You don't want people stealing, dealing drugs then just pay them more so they can work and afford things they need. No reason we should all be sick and tired just to pay rent and then have to be on disability because we suffered so much just to have a roof over our heads. We don't have to be slaves to this system. Your bachelors degree could be worthless someday, what would you do then ?
