How DARE you have a child and NOT pay for their university schooling.
The fucking gall of parents to pressure their kids to go to college from the time their 5 to 18, and then when they are finally ready to enroll, you say "sorry kid, you're on your on own".

You BROUGHT the kid into this world without THEIR consent so you better fucking pay for their schooling you selfish egotistical piece of garbage. It's not like they asked to exist or asked to be forced to go to school for 20 years of their life and then end up in debt from student loans, mortgage, car note, etc. You brought the kid here for your own selfish reason, and it is YOUR responsibility to pay for their education so that they can succeed in the world. It's not your children's fault that you sat on your ass and demanded nothing from Congress while college costs were going through the fucking roof.

And if you can't afford to pay for your child's schooling in addition to your bills, then get a second job. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY AS A PARENT TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR CHILD. You had them, you knew they would be expensive, now deal with it. If I hear one more story about how a parent refused to even help pay for their child's university costs "because you're 18 and a legal adult now" or because "I've got my own bills to pay" I am going to fucking scream. The selfishness and egotism of most of these parents is astounding. And no, this thread isn't about me, I graduated from college years ago.

Re: How DARE you have a child and NOT pay for their university schooling.
It may be true the kids didn't ask to exist, but if they don't like it they can always put an end to their misery, can't they?

Parents are obliged to take care of their kids for 18+x years, where x is a free variable determined by each parent any way they please.

I wouldn't personally kick out my kids at 18, but some people do, and it has both pluses and minuses for the kids. The bad part is that they have to take care of themselves, but the good part is that they have to take care of themselves! You see, sooner or later every human needs to start taking responsibility for him- or herself, and postponing it for too long doesn't help your kids.

Some people actually praise their parents for kicking them out when they were 18!

(I still don't do it because I'm a big softie, but I can see why it might actually be a good idea.)

What's equally worse are the parents who sit back and watch their 18 year olds take out federal and private loans as if they even have the slightest idea of how interest works or what the difference between an unsubsidized and subsidized loan is. The parents who let their fresh-out-of-high-school financially inexperienced children take out thousands of dollars of unecessary student loans because their lazy ass selfish parents refuse to put a dime up to pay for their own child's education.

Some mammals do the same thing, but they don't have a soul and are horrendous murderers (like felines). Others live togheter in a community (dolphins, elephants). Others just do that, like bears.

Humans or animals, it makes no difference. The entire purpose of raising children is for them to grow up so they can take care of themselves (and eventually raise children of their own).

You're one of those tards that believe that it is perfectly reasonable for parents to throw their child out the day they turn 18 to "teach them how to be independent".

Yes, parents do OWE their child an education so that their child can succeed. THEY didn't fucking ask to be here so THEY shouldn't have to suffer through financial hardship because their selfish and childish parents think it's acceptable to force them to go to school and then decline to help out. Any loving parent WANTS to help their child.

I did my best for 18+ years to teach my kids everything I knew about the world by that age, along with loving them and feeding them. They needed world experience, and the only way to do that was to kick them out. Some moved by choice, and at least one needed to get booted. It took decades before they all understood, but they're all doing well on their own, and some of them have advanced degrees(without loans). By choice, I'd have had them do a trade first, but it didn't happen.

It ain't always easy being a parent.

Re: How DARE you have a child and NOT pay for their university schooling.
Now I see why depression rates and mental health crisis have been on the rise and don't seem to stopping anytime soon.

So many children are the product of selfish, egostitical, cold-hearted parents who had children for their own emotional gain: because they were bored, because their marriage was on the verge of collapse, because all of their friends were having children, because they wanted to start a family, because they were lonely, etc etc.

The parents have these kids to give themselves an ego boost and then they dispose the child like trash when they reach the age of an legal adult. And then they get pissed off at the kid when they ask for assistance in school or paying a utility bill because now they feel like their own child is putting a damper in their vacation funds and shopping spree money.

And then the parents feel good about themselves for abadoning their children when they turned 18 and refusing to at least offer some help for these absurd university costs. They brag about throwing the kid out and leaving their children to fend for themselves, they boast about not paying a dime....until they get that unfortunate knock on the door from the police about their child's untimely "suicide" related to being burried in a knee deep unpayable student loan debt.

But keep patting yourselves on the back you fucking pathetic loser ass "parents".

If you would have learnt responsibility, it wasn't hard to figure out, what your parents can do and what you can do. I know, the kids these days think going to school is a time to play and have a good time. Parents are responsible to make up for their short coming. Every parents has a desire to have their kids grow up successful. But accidents happen. Look at nature, the birds, animals, everything. Not all of them make it.
Yes, it is frustrating when you have a goal but you don't have the support.

I could have 3 PhD degrees if my parents would have told me, sony make your own living & go to college, stand up on your own feet. But after high school, my older brother told me to find a job as we are poor & support the family. Supporting family & going to college was not an easy job. There were times that I was sick & yet I had to work. Ask any one who had a pneumonia how hard it is to breath.
The only thing I regret that, when I went back to college to get my provisional diploma back. The principal asked me why I am not getting admission. I lied that my brother got transferred and that I will be getting admission in a college 200 miles away. The sad face couldn't lie, & I swear, I sensed that he was going to help me. When I came out of the building I cried for 2 hours. Even since I never lied to any one. Idiots will convince you that they can make America Great Again. I wrote to President Trump many letters to hire my son so I can reach him on daily basis and suggest things that can truly make America Great Again. But I sensed that he conned us all. He doesn't have to hire my son but give me the pledge that everything I send him that he will read it personally. I worked hard all of my life and I know where he is making mistakes. Besides there are a lot of Good Americans that will go out of their way to make it happen. Sony have faith in your parents, don't disrespect them.

I totally agree with the OP. I believe it is my wife and my responsibility to see that she has the best possible chance at succeeding in life. And even though a college degree is no guarantee, it is better odds than just a HS diploma.

We have saved since birth and have enough funds to cover her education to just about any school in the country, though Yale, Harvard, etc. may be stretching it a bit. We were happy to do this.

Now I have the problem that she has graduated this year and did not apply to any schools because she wanted to take a year off. I knew this was a huge mistake but could not get any support from the spineless spouse. I just know my kid and know how hard she is going to have it trying to get in the "school mode" again after a year of doing nothing but sitting in bed.

But to the original post, bravo OP! I wasn't sure there were many who held this same opinion.

If she doesn't want to go to a university there are other ways to help her out. Maybe she will start her own business and you can help her out there or just she just works her way up in a company. There are many ways to succeed and not all take a college degree. Some people wish they would put all that money from college into a down payment on a small home that will appreciate in times to come with a mortgage that can be paid off with even a regular paying job that didn't take a degree to get. Think outside the box when it comes to life. My daughter is doing great in insurance and that didn't take a degree. Son is working himself up in a grocery store. None of them wanted to go to college even though I would have helped them and are very happy.

Agree. Many are not college material. College is pushed because it is a business and rarely do schools talk about careers you can do without a degree or even going to trade schools instead. There are options these days. It is a parents job to help the child to make a good decision and to look at what they are really good at and not to just push them into more education.
