Sony is restarting production of vinyl records
[link to www.foxnews.com]

Contrary to what the children of baby boomers might believe, vinyl records are far from extinct. In fact, they're popular enough in Japan that Sony is preparing to restart mass production after nearly 30 years.

A Sony factory near Tokyo will begin churning out vinyl in March 2018, the Nikkei Asian Review reported on Wednesday. The company has already installed record-cutting equipment at a recording studio in Tokyo, which will cut the master copies before they're sent to the factory for mass production

Re: Sony is restarting production of vinyl records
That's fucking stupid.

Vinyl has horrible sound quality which gets worse and worse as it's played.

Vinyl is not portable.

Vinyl has room for barely 45 minutes of music!

It's really bad.

Max 45 min of crap sound from a bulky and perishable vinyl or unlimited time of streamed music at top quality via spotify? It's obvious. Only you vinul freaks think differently...

Then don't buy it..

Many feel that the analog sound is superior to digital.

Plus us old folks find the sometimes scratchy sound reminiscent of a simpler time when getting a record was a big deal. We loved the cover art plus extras that might be included...

Do your iTunes and CDs

We love our vinyl

Buy one, then. They're out there for sale. Manufacturing never stopped.

Until you hear a good vinyl pressing you won't know how good they can sound. MUCH better than digital.

Just use the proper tool for the job at hand. Use digital on portable devices and keep vinyl for those special moments at home.

I am sure that you never heard a properly pressed vinyl record, only the lousy ones for the mass market. Have you ever heard a Japanese direct cut recording?

Upstate South Carolina...gives me access to Western NC, Atlanta GA area and Eastern TN.

I do both...I'll buy equipment that I know I won't have a hard time turning ...clean and test, put it out to my close contacts and if nobody is interested, I'll run it on craigslist, usually have it sold in a week or two

Re: Sony is restarting production of vinyl records
What is timeless about vinyl is contained within the cover and sleeve, the art work was incredible in most cases. If you were a teenager during the vinyl rein you spent hours in your room either alone or with friends staring at the cover, inset and sleeve. You were also able to follow along with the lyrics. I don't think there is a market for their return but it is nice to know there is still an appreciation for the medium.

Let's turn this into something fun and reminiscent, post your favorite album art work.
