END ALL of the other bloated government payout programs. Social Security (which is going bankrupt anyway), welfare, food stamps, disability and any other government payouts.

Make it clear that the new program and law is ONLY for "US CITIZENS."

OK OP, since you're still here, you said this would make sense to Republicans if we actually do the math.

So let's do the math OP. How much would this "basic income" be per month?

"Universal Basic Income" is for lazy people that dont want to work.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 74803433

Some yes. But what it actually does is REPLACE ALL of the outdated and wasteful old programs with a new simple, streamlined and efficient program for US citizens only.

It also improves the buying power of poor people and gets more money into the economy since poor people actually spend their money.

If you took the GROSS yearly box office revenues of all of American cinema, it would pay for a universal income for every adult in the US of a whopping $42 per year.

So, who are we going to rob next?

hmm

Where you getting these numbers from? Also please include all forms of entertainment, such as pro sports and TV shows.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 74958647

OK, still collecting data... but if we also rob the NBA and NFL of all their revenue, that's another 12 billion or so a year on top of the motion picture industry theft.

So, we're up to roughly $100 a year for every adult in the US. Keep in mind that tens of thousands of people would be out of jobs at this point... these numbers are coming from taxing every dollar Americans spend on these industries, not just reducing Tom Brady's contract to $50,000 per year.

So, load up the black helicopters and SWAT trucks, I guess we're gonna have to Venezuela the fuck out of TV now because we're just not getting it done here.

Social programs cost 668 bil a year
332 million citizens
Roughly 2000 dollars per citizen.

Now, an issue arises if too many people don't work. Part of that 668 bil a year comes from middle class taxes. Here's a solution.

Require work, or create a local aggregator app that all corporations or even people with work can post volunteer based non-skilled positions. It could be tied to your SS number so that the amount of work could be checked. Give the disabled an option to keep their disability and determine how much work they would be able to do.

This would further free up economic resources. Free labor (kinda, it isn't slavery) for the ones making a lot of money.

I mean a income if you are unemployed or underemployed. If you are making more than $2000 per month, you dont get anything. If you are making less than that, you get the difference so that you make $2000. If you become unemployed, you get the $2000, VERY simple.

YES, I know that it would make low end workers not want to work but it would then make employers HAVE to pay more. It would be a different type of economy but once it settled in, I believe it makes very sound economic sense especially by ENDING ALL of the existing programs.

Instead of just reflexively opposing a Basic Income in the US, the Republicans should actually look at the advantages.

If the new Basic Income Law is passed so that it completely REPLACES welfare payments, food stamps, Social Security payments, disability payments, and ALL other government payments, the savings in paper shuffling and bureaucracy alone would pay for the new program.

Also, by writing the new law to apply to "US Citizens ONLY," it would eliminate Billions of dollars in payments to illegals in all of those replaced programs.

A Basic Income would also increase the buying power for retailers, etc. This idea makes perfect sense from both a liberal and conservative perspective.

Force them to pay more without raising prices? How did that work out for Venezuela.

Walmart makes about 13 billion per year in net income. If they took all of that and gave it to their 2 million employees, it would be about $500 bucks more per month.

But then, the stockholders wouldn't make any money. So why would they keep their ownership? They would all sell their stocks, greatly reducing the value of the company.

When Walmart needed operating income for expansion, repairs, or renovation, it would now have to come out of their employees pay. So that $500 per month wouldn't always even be there.

The Universal Basic Income is inevitable as AI and Tech take more and more jobs. It may even begin in this lifetime.

If we don't rapture out in the next 100 years, the idea of having to work [as we define work now] in order to eat and have a roof over your head will seem outlandish.

A future society will identify or even genetically create skills and aptitudes and humans will be put into positions that society requires.

..or we destroy a big chunk of the planet and start from scratch...working the land...

...or we rapture out soon, Jesus takes care of evil at Armageddon and we live in peace for 1,000 years....

It would cost 1.5 trillion per year to give every adult in America $500 per month... not even enough to live on.

In order to do that without borrowing money, we would have to raise the taxes of every working age American by $1000 per month... I guess that would be a net $500 per month.

Do you have $500 per month lying around? I guess just borrow more from our enemies then?

There are many other alternatives.

For example, there is a lot of empty land in this country. Why not start giving plots to families and letting them live how they want?

That would be free, it would be up to the families to hunt, grow food, and survive.

But that isn't even an option.

Instead they want the poor on food stamps so they can go get full off poisonous fake food.

So let's do the math OP. How much would this "basic income" be per month?

I would say $2000 per adult, $1000 per dependent while ENDING ALL of the existing programs. The bureaucratic savings alone would be tremendous as well as the dumping of all the illegals off of those programs.

You forget that he said ONLY people making less than $24,000 per year will get benefits. Children will get half to help families with childcare, college savings, etc.

MOST, people will not collect benefits because they will want to make more than $24,000 per year but that safety net will be there. Replacing all the other programs will save a lot as well.
