I guess only rich Arab countries deserve to treat their citizens to free money. Only native born citizems though.

America couldnt handle that type of exxlusion.. Seeing as how acceptable politics here seem to be emotionally based. Libfuks

Communism always ends in mass graves, read some history and get back to us.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73613959

This idea is much better than communism which basically just means everyone work for peanuts while the ruling class lives like royalty.

Low and middle income jobs will rapidly be replaced by computers and automation so unless you want the middle class to all become bums on the street, this will have to occur.

A plan like this that REPLACES all of the other disastrous programs, would actually boast the capitalist economy into overdrive. Poor people spend their money, they do not sit on it like the rich do.

Instead of just reflexively opposing a Basic Income in the US, the Republicans should actually look at the advantages.

If the new Basic Income Law is passed so that it completely REPLACES welfare payments, food stamps, Social Security payments, disability payments, and ALL other government payments, the savings in paper shuffling and bureaucracy alone would pay for the new program.

Also, by writing the new law to apply to "US Citizens ONLY," it would eliminate Billions of dollars in payments to illegals in all of those replaced programs.

A Basic Income would also increase the buying power for retailers, etc. This idea makes perfect sense from both a liberal and conservative perspective.

Let's make this really easy.

There are 300 million people in the US. (There are more but let's keep the math simple.)

Do $1,000 per person and you're at 300 billion.

That's what you're paying out at $1,000 per person, PER MONTH!

Do it for a year and you're over 3.5 trillion.

Remember, you said Universal, not selective, everyone gets it.

Imagine the cottage industry you'll create for women having babies...

So you're going to call it UBI instead of welfare and cut their benefits by a significant percentage.

I like it!

I have no belief it will ever happen given people can currently collect rent assistance, utilities assistance, Obamaphones, health care, child care subsidies, and food stamps.

Have you ever seen the calculations that indicate a full range of benefits, which are tax free, are the equivalent of at least a $60,000 per year job?

But hey, if we can cut that by 60%? I'm all for it.

Never works. You have to end ALL of the outdated, inefficient, and bloated programs that exist now. Welfare, food stamps, disability, Social Security, and ALL the other programs that offer government payouts.

Having ONE very simple program like OP describes would be much cheaper and would solve MANY existing problems. Instead of just rehashing why it will NEVER work, actually read what he has said and I think what he says makes perfect sense and would work well.

Love it.

"US citizens ONLY." "REPLACES ALL other government payments." Those two statements alone make prefect sense and would pay for the new and ONLY program.

Universal Basic Income? Are you f*cking serious? Look I'm all for having a safety net, I had to use it when I was in my early 20's getting my career and family started, but I had no one paying my rent (I spent $3000 on a piece of shyt trailer 3 bedrooms 1 bath), but hey that got me through the beginning of my career. It wasn't fancy, it had roaches, it sucked living in the ghetto lol, but I'd rather it be by my hand that I pulled myself up.

You give a mouse a cookie...

What's next a basic cars? basic cable for everyone? get real.

I'm glad I had nothing coming out of high school. No father (dead), no mother (told me to get out now I was 19), nothing. Got a job as a cook. Now I'm a professional chef. People need to stop being lazy and unrealistic in their careers.

If you took the GROSS yearly box office revenues of all of American cinema, it would pay for a universal income for every adult in the US of a whopping $42 per year.

So, who are we going to rob next?

hmm
 Quoting: R. Wordsworth

Where you getting these numbers from? Also please include all forms of entertainment, such as pro sports and TV shows.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 74958647

OK, still collecting data... but if we also rob the NBA and NFL of all their revenue, that's another 12 billion or so a year on top of the motion picture industry theft.

So, we're up to roughly $100 a year for every adult in the US. Keep in mind that tens of thousands of people would be out of jobs at this point... these numbers are coming from taxing every dollar Americans spend on these industries, not just reducing Tom Brady's contract to $50,000 per year.

So, load up the black helicopters and SWAT trucks, I guess we're gonna have to Venezuela the fuck out of TV now because we're just not getting it done here.
 Quoting: R. Wordsworth

Ok now take away all the needless spending, reduce military budget, cut foreign aid, eliminate NASA, etcetc.

There's a lot of money being wasted.

Also how about some stipulations?

Only those who are doing the best they can and working but it's not good enough and they still struggle.
