St. Louis $10 minimum wage will revert back to $7.70 in August, Governor announces

ST. LOUIS • The minimum wage in St. Louis will revert to $7.70 an hour on Aug. 28, with Gov. Eric Greitens announcing on Friday that he will allow a bill blocking the city’s increase to become law without his signature.

When the Legislature sends the governor a bill, he has several options. He can sign it, veto it or take the middle course — without action before a constitutional deadline, the bill automatically takes effect.

The bill in question bans local minimum wages, requiring all cities and municipalities in Missouri to stick to the statewide standard.

How can anyone survive in ten per hour let alone 7? I make a little over $13/hour and my rent is $800/month and I barely make it some weeks. I have a good savings to fall back on but still.....not many do these days.

Why should anyone have to go to school just to get paid 10 or 15 dollars an hour? The minimum wage should be so that everyone can still live on it. My first job was 15 dollars an hour and it required no education. Why shouldn't everyone get an opportunity to work for a decent wage to have at least a decent roof over their head and some food? If someone does not like a minimum wage job, leave. No one is forcing it on anyone.

If someone is tired of earning minimum wage, learn a skill or trade which pays better.

With my business, the lowest we pay is $20 per hour, and that is for simple clerical work,
but they gotta have established, demonstrable skills or the are not hired.

Crunch the numbers regarding profits vs pay times number of employees of these large corporations and you will see they can afford to pay much more and still make more than enough money.

The minimum wage should be based on what the corporate profits are. Some small businesses, the owner is barely making $50,000 a year, which isn't shit for a regular worker.

If the higher ups are making a million or more, then the low paid workers should make more. It is stupid to make it across the board because it hurts the little guy.
