President Trump’s outside attorney, Jay Sekulow, said Sunday that the meeting between the president’s son and Russians during the presidential campaign would not have happened if the Secret Service considered it “nefarious.” “If this was nefarious, why'd the Secret Service allow these people in?” Sekulow asked on ABC’s “This Week.” But Sekulow suggested the Russians that attended the meeting in Trump Tower with Donald Trump, Jr., and other Trump campaign officials were vetted. [ link to thehill.com] From the comment section of the article linked above: This is one of the worst arguments I've yet to hear a lawyer make. The secret service is not the White House ethics counsel , nor are they the police. Their job is to protect the life of the President and his family, not question who he can hold meetings with. The only thing that would have caused the secret service to block the meeting would be if te people Don jr were trying to meet had guns. Only an ignoramus would buy into this argument. It doesn't even make sense and assumes the audience doesn't understand the role of the secret service.
