Weird radio signal detected by the Arecibo radio telescope in Puerto Rico seem to be coming from Red Star 11 light years away.
Bizarre radio signals seem to be coming from a small red star about 11 light-years from Earth, and astronomers aren’t exactly sure what’s causing them.

The signals were first picked up in May by scientists at the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico. The astronomers there were observing red dwarfs — small, cool stars that are usually about half the mass of our Sun — when they picked up some unique radio waves coming from a part of the sky where a star named Ross 128 is located. The pulsing signals appeared to be coming from deep space, possibly from the red dwarf. But the wave patterns don’t really match anything the astronomers would expect from the star, leaving them stumped as to the signal’s origins.

Re: Weird radio signal detected by the Arecibo radio telescope in Puerto Rico seem to be coming from Red Star 11 light years away.
Astronomers working at the Arecibo radio telescope in Puerto Rico have detected a weird radio signal, spotted when pointing their telescope at the nearby star Ross 128.

The signal seen from Ross 128, which is 11 light years from Earth, consisted of quasi-periodic radio pulses across a wide range of frequencies. The observations were made on May 12 in the range 4-5 GHz and lasted about ten minutes. A periodic signal naturally draws attention to itself and could indicate an artificial origin

Experts are left baffled by mysterious and ‘strange’ radio signals detected from a star 11 light-years away
Mysterious signals appear to be coming from Ross 128, a close by red dwarf star
Signals were heard by the Arecibo Observatory, a radio telescope in Puerto Rico
Researchers said 'strange' radio signals came through in 'almost periodic' bursts
It could be from a stellar flare, an outburst of energy from the surface of a star

Professor Abel Méndez, an astrobiologist at the University of Puerto Rico, said it was unlikely that the signals were sent by aliens, but added that the possibility could not yet be ruled out.

In a personal blog post reporting his findings, Professor Méndez said 'we have never seen satellites emit bursts like that' and noted that the signals 'very peculiar'.

Interesting stuff, but how did you manage to miss the pinned thread about this?

4-5 GHz means it was SOMETHING human tech related... a spacecraft or just interferance.. who knows

Yeah, my bad. I was reading a couple of articles about it and then made a thread, posted it and then noticed the pin.
No harm done.
