China issues demolition order on world’s largest religious town in Tibet, Serthar Larung Gar Buddhist Institute,
The Chinese Communist Party at work, the reason for the demolition is that the community is in need of “ideological guidance.”
An eight-point document issued by the Chinese authorities spells out the step-by-step guide to demolishing housing facilities of thousands of monks, nuns and lay practitioners and their expulsion, so as to reduce the number of residents to government-set ceiling of 5000. Citing the decisions taken at the Sixth Tibet Work Forum Conference and the Second National Work Conference on Religion, the document stated that the demolition order was aimed at proper regulation and management of Larung Gar Buddhist institute. Mainly prefecture-level departments under the direction of mostly Han Chinese officials would carry out the demolition order. In 2001, Chinese authorities implemented similar crackdown on Larung Gar by destroying thousands of monastic dwellings and expulsion of monastic and lay practitioners, some of whom died of shock or resorted to suicide, while some were rendered mentally unsound. Khenpo Jigme Phuntsok, the charismatic founder of Larung Gar Buddhist Institute later died under mysterious circumstances at a Chinese government hospital in Chengdu.

Larung Gar, which has hundreds of ethnic Chinese devotees as well as Tibetan, is known for its democratic and egalitarian practices, with a robust means of collective decision-making by its members, an express commitment to gender and ethnic equality, and a rejection of traditional forms of hierarchy. Even the highest lamas must perform menial chores such as cleaning toilets, unusual among monastic communities that are typically highly stratified.

Re: China issues demolition order on world’s largest religious town in Tibet, Serthar Larung Gar Buddhist Institute,
Pretty much a concerted Muslim takeover of bustling Buddhist Monastery whose population has grown to 50,000 just in that Larung Gar institute.
Article 36 of China’s constitution guarantees freedom of religious belief, but in practice this right is frequently violated. Government policies over the years to “manage religion by law,” “adapt religion to socialism,” and, more recently, “adapt religious doctrines to socialism,” have undermined its claims of supporting religious freedom both among believers in China and abroad. The government’s White Paper on freedom of religion in the predominantly Muslim Xinjiang province, issued on June 2, 2016, asserts that “the Constitutional principle of freedom of religious belief has been comprehensively implemented,” a view contrary to ongoing and pervasive restrictions on religious practice, including authorization of clergy, approval of religious rituals, and access to religious education. In recent years authorities have also moved aggressively against state-sanctioned Christian churches in southeastern China, detaining congregation members and their lawyers, as well as using blowtorches to remove crucifixes from churches.

The leader Khenpo Jigme Phuntsok was over weight, but the monks and nuns looked like they are starving and malnutrioned.

Not getting the whole story here and in Buddhism the teachers should never be put on a God-like status where they are worshipped.

All around this world, good people are
being attacked by evil ones. It is the most
wasteful and polluting cabal who finds time
to destroy precious resources in this way.
Then they love to harp on conservation after.
Total idiocrcracy.
