Police are searching for a couple they said beat and robbed a Salem man Thursday night.
Police said a man and a woman came to Ted Dawson's home on 20th Street Southeast around 10 p.m. Thursday asking to use the phone, and Dawson let them in.
Dawson told police that the man grabbed him, put him into a headlock and punched him in the face until he couldn't move. He told police that one of the two people, it's unclear which, hit him over the head with a wine bottle, knocking him unconscious.
Dawson was found lying on the floor of his home Friday morning by a concerned neighbor.
"These two people that had come, a man and a woman, obviously had left Ted, probably thinking he was going to die or not caring," said a neighbor.
Police said the couple fled with $20 and Dawson's 1977 Chevrolet pickup truck, which ran out of gas four blocks away.
The man is described as 5 foot 10 inches tall with brown hair, a thin build and clean-shaven. The woman is described as 5 foot 5 inches tall with blond hair and a medium build.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Salem police at 503-588-6050.
