There's plenty of good, new ideas, OP. But commercialising them has been skewed so that the multinationals are the only avenue to sell to market.

Just patenting something is so fucking hard nowadays, and making it a world wide patent is expensive too.

I currently have (3) patents and numerous design registrations, and have done OK, but not enough for me to stop working or anything like that.

I have some really cool ideas and protos that I'd love to get to market, but my only realistic options are to mount a smash and grab approach, and have everything ready, including a marketing plan, and distribution ready to roll in one big het and make my money there, whilst all the me too's then copy it and do their thing. I might get lucky and be able to sell it, lock stock to someone else.

But there are some subtleties to what you're asking.

Some ideas are purely to make money off, and you cant begrudge anyone for wanting to do that.

Some ideas are ground breaking, and in the best interests of mankind, but even if you release a working prototype, and state categorically that you are giving this idea to the world for free, it will likely be buried, as it may impinge upon vested interests, and their returns on current investments. Cheaper to bury, than to compete. Ask Preston Tucker. (or at least watch the movie! LOL)

It's a powerful 'machine' to go up against. And many of us learn the hard way, by being blinded by the idea, and excited at seeing an idea come to life, then realising just how much work and MONEY will be required to protect it, and bring it to fruition.

I worked with Marty and Marc on the first Tesla roadsters, and trust me, the excitement diminished really quickly once everyone realised what 'investment' actually spelled out for everyone concerned. Marty and Marc who? Exactly.

My focus is on leaving Sydney, which is just an expensive shit hole nowadays. But when I have, and can set up a decent workshop, I have some really cool ideas I'd like to either commercialise, or low volume push into the market quietly.
