I can name a few since 1990:
- Solid state light amplification, with EDFA (Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier). Allowed laser photon regeneration and allowed current worldwide fiber optic network, using one EDFA per 100 Km up to 1000 Km.
- Ultra high speed at Internet by using Hardware instead of software for IP switching at routers. 100's of Terabits/sec
- Fractal antennae, embedded at every mobile phone, wich allow wideband reception and transmission far from the head!
- Home banking, e-commerce, social media (a shame, but still).
- Positron emission tomography (PET), to search full body for diseases.
- Molecular composite materials, allowing different coatings being used at clothes, construction, aluminum, painting, airplanes, seats,.....
- Replacement of aluminum by cooper at the junction between chips and external leads, wich allowed the creation of Gigaherts CPUs (from P4, thanks to IBM).
- DirecTV and equivalent, with Galaxy V class satellites and 25" antenna. This one has to be credited 100% to Hughes.
- Flat screens: Several technologies.
- Ion-Lithium batteries.
There are a lot of things, not visible by people, under the hood.
Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75397213 Exactly. Just incremental improvements of older technologies. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75072354 I can't understand how come a twisted and retarded mind feels entitled to be hypocritical, posing as someone who has an IQ above average. The title clearly says " new inventions and ideas", so I wrote exactly about that. Don't dare to use my own words for another meaning, POS! Your life must sucks, specially at nights, when your innerself has to deal with what you have miserably to do during the day. Not even useful for trolling 101. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75397213 OK, to clarify: Your list of items contradicts what you are trying to prove. You are trying to show that there have been new inventions, and then you provide a list of incrementally improved older inventions, for examples, better batteries. Batteries were invented hundreds of years ago. Replacing one metal or chemical with another is not a new invention. Now, compared to the battery, a solar cell is a new invention, but solar cells were invented in the 1950's so they are not new. If you were to list something like: * antigravity flying cars * instant teleportation of people * faster than light Space travel being invented in the last ten years, then you would prove your point is correct, and that the OP is wrong. But things like replacing one metal with another (aluminum with copper) in a specific application is not a new invention.
