That's an interesting question OP. I have wondered recently that we couldn't put a man on the moon right now if our lives depended on it. The Apollo Program in the 60's did it with slide rules and handwritten calculations FFS! And the planned Mission to Mars keeps getting pushed further and further back. Hell, we can't even put a Space Shuttle up with it blowing to pieces.
I really think the advancement of civilization has reached it's peak and we're heading back towards a new Dark Ages. Maybe that has to happen to stimulate new ideas.
Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72491028 i generally agree- the 1960's was the apex of civilization and technology since then we have become lazy and readily amused with trinkets and gadgets like the endless smartphone apps that allow you to do something that you never had a need for, but now you do it just because you can Quoting: Anonymous Coward 65257742 1960s tech was invented in the 40s or earlier. The moon rockets were just beefed up Nazi weapons. Solid state transistors were not new. etc. Actually the real boom in intellect and invention was 1890-1920. In fact nothing else could have followed without A/C power. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75373018 (emphasis added above) And do you know why it ended around 1920? Two related reasons: 1) The death of engineering geniuses like Oliver Heaviside and CP Steinmetz. 2) The promotion of fake science based on mathematical theory, as exemplified by Einstein and his cohorts. Quoting: Nick Tesla 75123625 Yes, "theory" and "experimenting" has overtaken actually doing. Universities waste billions of dollars "studying" things but never actually achieve anything new.
