Hi GFG - I was at So Padre Island a couple weeks ago when the hurricane went into central Mexico. It was a couple hundred miles south of us, but we had high tide warnings and rip current warnings. Sure enough, at high tide the day the storm entered Mexico, the storm tide actually rose about 4 feet higher than the previous day. The water covered the entire beach (dry soft sand the day before) and went into the edge of the sand dunes. Lots of big, rolling waves that started WAY off the beach. Can only imagine what it will look like if Harvey makes a direct hit on the southern tip of the island.

In 1979, I lived close to Alvin TX. A tropical system came ashore, and parked. Pushed tides up, then RAINED. And RAINED. First reports said we got 48" of rain in 36 hours - a world record. They reduced the rain total later, but it still stands as a world record. The bayou rose 17' in a matter of hours, and the water was moving fast enough that an ocean-going tug couldn't move against it to try to rescue people trapped on their roofs!

I highly recommend that everyone along the TX coast be paying attention. Most of the evac routes are low-lying and flood easily. Pretty easy to get trapped and have to bug-in, which isn't a good thing in a tropical weather system/flood!!!

That area near Houston is about where the flood of '79 hit. Wouldn't stay there for any amount!! The flooding all across the southern coastal area of TX could be bad!

Harvey to Redevelop over the Gulf of Mexico, Then Threaten Texas as Tropical Storm or Hurricane with Dangerous Flooding Rains

The remnant of what was once Tropical Storm Harvey is likely to redevelop in the Gulf of Mexico.

It is then likely to threaten the Texas or northeast Mexico Gulf Coast by Friday.

Harvey may strengthen to a tropical storm or hurricane before landfall.

Harvey may then stall for a few days, leading to a dangerous flood threat in parts of Texas and Louisiana.

Harvey has a long way to go through the Gulf. Long way in very warm waters without much in terms of systems that will cause wind sheer or anything to stop this. I think they are underestimating the wind speed and storm surge with this. Obviously, with the way the high pressures have set up, flooding will be the most dangerous part. Glad I am far away from that area of the country. Feel for those who live there so be safe out there everyone!

When Harvey stalls it will dump a tremendous amount of rain. Texas will see historic flooding.

I'm not all too religious, but the term biblical flood comes to mind....
