Harvey marks the most extreme rain event in U.S. history

The rain from Harvey is in a class of its own. The storm has unloaded over 50 inches of rain east of Houston, the greatest amount ever recorded in the Lower 48 states from a single storm. And it’s still raining.

John Nielsen-Gammon, Texas state climatologist, said a rain gauge in Mont Belvieu, about 40 miles east of Houston, had registered 51.1 inches of rain through early Tuesday afternoon. This total exceeds the previous record of 48 inches set during tropical cyclone Amelia in Medina, Texas in 1978.

There is something really bothering me. I'm reading various twitter feeds all over the internet and it feels as though the left is more concerned about the safety of the animals than of the flesh and blood people.

Of course people want all life to be saved but they seem to be focusing in on the animals and not the very real people.

I noticed that too, there was so much footage of people carrying their dogs onto boats, sometimes in cages, sometimes in their arms. I didn't see any cats though, maybe they're discriminating against cats ???

I noticed that and a vet friend of mine said it's because cats know danger and have their hiding places inside the house and if you have to run at a moments notice and can't find your cat(s) you can't make the rescue boat wait until you try to find them, you have to save your life so you just have to go.

It's terribly sad but his explanation made sense to me.

they come with the cats loose in their arms, the cat freaks out, scratches them to pieces, takes off, hopefully up a tree

if you have to leave your house quickly, put a cat inside a pillow case and tie it closed if time is of the essence
