40 days is always significant in Scripture... typically it involves repentance & purifying. The month of Elul started a day or so before the eclipse. Elul also is a period of repentance. Jonah's warning to Nineveh was a 40 day warning. 40 days after the eclipse, we will have the revelation 12 sign in the stars.

The last time the Revelation 12 sign happened, was Sept 11, 03 BC. That day was likely the birth of Jesus.

I was sharing with friends who I watched the August 21 eclipse with in Western NC about there being a baffling historical record indicating that major disasters converge -in the same year-
with Total Solar Eclipses (where the shadow path crosses a continent) at a rate that is well beyond a statistical norm.

1918, for instance, brought America the first cross continental total solar eclipse since the 1865 Civil War continental solar eclipse.
The 1918 total eclipse also aligned with both the US entrance into World War I, and the deadliest world disaster of all time -the Spanish Flu Pandemic that claimed 50 million lives.


For me, the Great American Eclipse was amazing to watch, especially while sipping a fresh margarita and floating in the cool waterfall pool of a clean Carolina mountain river.
Right after the sun emerged from full occlusion, this immature Bald eagle came and landed on a branch in a tall dead tree on the bank directly across river at our waterfall top vantage spot!

By another twist of fate I had with me a pair of new/unused birding quality binoculars that had arrived in the mail the day before. For a good 5-6 minutes we we watched...zoomed in,
as this Bald eagle sat on his dead tree perch staring straight back at us. And then he flew away.

Although I felt no sense of foreboding from watching the eclipse itself, there was a dark omen in the day.
That Bald eagle, symbol of America, had made his appearance in the most dead skeleton of trees around.

Reinforcing the theme was a second larger dead tree behind the first that still had all of its limbs.
It stuck out in stark black contrast to all the other live green trees that formed the forest background.

Oblivious to the deeper significance of my eclipse day eagle encounter,
I at first welcomed this week after with only a slight uptick in spider sense and an amused, wait–and–see attitude.

In hindsight, due to his skeleton tree perch, and considering that this -my first ever sighting
of a wild Bald eagle in the mountains of NC- occurred immediately after the eclipse totality...
I see now that he was my American eagle eclipse harbinger of the hurricane.
