A brush fire raged through more than 2,000 acres Friday in the San Fernando Valley and led to hundreds of evacuations as it spread quickly amid windy, hot conditions north of the 210 Freeway.

The La Tuna Fire was burning in heavy hillside brush in the Sun Valley and Sunland-Tujunga areas.

It began moving over the hills toward Burbank late Friday night.

Latest evacuation and road closure info for La Tuna Fire

Mandatory evacuation orders were issued for the Brace Canyon Park area of Burbank. Those Burbank streets under evacuation orders included Haven Way from Joaquin Drive to the top of the hill, Olney Place, Remy Place, Mystic View and View Crest.

Additional evacuation orders were also issued for the neighborhood of Lamer Street from Brace Canyon Road to Keystone Street and the Castleman Estates, Burbank police said.

Firefighters moved into structure defense mode to protect homes as residents were advised to evacuate immediately.

The flames were expected to reach those neighborhoods by midnight.

That's why you got to live on the coast and not in the inland fire zone. Either way the fires always get put out and rarely burn a home. It's about 1/100th as bad as what you saw happen to Houston and almost every 5 years to a gulf state.

Angelinos are so self-absorbed, they think their own particular section within the enormous megalopolis of L.A. equates to the entire city.

Homes do burn, it's a sight to see at night, the place where the fire is headed is populated, it is the city.
They were saying they had rare weather, microburst that prevented the fire from being contained. The weather right now is cooperating.

While sad, most of the people who bought homes in those areas were aware it's a fire zone. Living on the coast is the best place since fires don't do much other there.

Just shows what you know about southern California. Near Santa Barbara/Ventura County they have islands near the mainland that will catch most Tsunami. Then the last earthquake was in 1994 and it wasn't nothing compared to what you've seen in the gulf states since then with their hurricanes.

the amount of aftershocks was crazy, I remember the night before too because there had been an incident in downtown were two vehicles crashed, people had guns, started shooting at each other, the ruffians ended up inside of a federal building, cops surrounded the building, I, a kid had to run for cover and get away from the building.

I lived near Northridge when the quake happened in 1994. It wasn't all that bad. The house I lived in was three stories and it wasn't damaged. The freeways were the worst damage and that was it from what I remember. I'd rather be there than in Houston or in Irma's path.

Fires happen near the coast, too. There was one near Pepperdine some years back. I want to say there was another one near Malibu, I don't remember exactly though. Maybe it was Calabasas or something.

I had a college professor who lost her home in a wildfire. I want to say she lived near Malibu at the time. I don't know when that was.
