You can't see Polaris from the Southern Hemisphere, except from extremely elevated positions in the first 200 miles south of the equator. On the summit of Kilimanjaro Polaris can be seen about to disappear beyond the horizon, descend a few feet and it's invisible. At sea level it dips below the horizon at the equator.
