sorry to tell you, but acreage is often under-reported...
I have accurate reports from first responders, reservation fire chiefs and fire fighters and most, I mean MOST fires that encroach on tribal lands have only HALF the actual acres burned reported.

Had a fire on tribal land two weeks ago here in CArson City, I personally called it in at 2:10pm meaning I could see lots of smoke coming from Voltaire canyon, yet the official report at 2:55 said air recon found no fire...

It was a lightening strike and ended up being fairly large, it wasn't addressed until it threatened the cinema just off tribal land...

There was an absolutely huge fire up at Owyhee, 200,000 acres by fire chief's estimate(this is a seasoned fireman who trains tribal first responders across all of Nevada), long story short, not fully reported on the us forest service logs...maybe has to do with compensation.

So I have to question the stats you are quoting.

This isn't the worst for the Pacific Northwest.

Its maybe the worst in some locales but not overall.
Washington isn't even close to their worst.

I'm thinking 6th - 8th but would have to look that over more carefully.

Thank you, the smoke is grey and dingy. Have ash and dust on EVERYTHING . Everthing smells of smoke after bathing in it for weeks. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
