Fairy-tales and legends tell of pure and daring heroes who conquer the dragon and take possession of its treasures

'In certain traditions summer is symbolized by a dragon with flames belching from its open jaws. This monster is the mythical animal that lives underground and appears on the surface only in order to burn, devour, and destroy. But it is also the guardian of all hidden treasure, symbolized by precious stones and metals, and the fruits of the earth; and those who wish to obtain these treasures must be capable of facing up to the dragon and defeating it. Here too, different traditions exist, many of which have come down to us in the form of fairy-tales and legends that tell of pure and daring heroes who conquer the dragon and take possession of its treasures.

Disciples would do well to meditate on tales of this kind; the fact that the summer releases subterranean forces is no reason to let themselves be devoured by the dragon.'
