To give you guys an Idea on how much damage a cat 5 Hurricane can do I'm posting some pictures of the Andrew aftermath!

a class 5 hurricane has the power and ability

to level homes built out of concrete block down to the ground.

I'm seeing a bunch of wooden barracks and trailer parks.

Oh no, every average 3 bedroom home built within

50 miles of the eye wall was completely leveled.

This was the hurricane that was supposed to kill my whole family and me. My mom had a "witchy" moment as my father used to say while Hurricane Andrew was still over the Atlantic Ocean. She just knew beyond a shadow of a doubt it was going to hit Fort Bragg, NC with such deadly force. She called the proper track and it followed that track almost exactly while the National Weather Service was still busy with their retard moments.

My mom got us out of there about a week before Hurricane Andrew hit and turns out my area was one of the hardest hit areas meaning my family and I should of died back then.

think you are safe in a commercial building???

Many people did not heed the warnings of andrew

stayed and died... even women and children.

i even know of one reporter who stayed in his home

with his children and died

one great argument for lots and lots of trees surrounding your suburb, a thick line of trees would have broken up that wind, saved all those homes. if you see a tree violently whipping around it is ABSORBING an enormous amount of wind energy that would have had to been stopped by your houses.

the building is still structurally sound, you're not gonna die if you're in the bathroom and flying objects can't hit you. you probably won't get a good nights sleep though, like they advertise

Yep. And if Irma is truly that much more powerful than Andrew then Florida... there won't be much of a State left. At least the alligators will have plenty of human corpses to feast on...

If irma were to come in at a cat 5 and hit

miami and go up the coast line it could do well

over a trillion dollars in damages

I was young back then, slept through it. Now with Irma is a different story

But Irma is projected to be a Cat 3 - 4 when it hits Florida.

cat 4 and hopefully cuba will take some of the wind out

of it..


but remember this Andrew went from a cat 1 to a cat 5

about 100 miles off the coast...

anything can happen in those hot shallow waters

Irma did topple reinforced transmission towers made of steel on one of the islands that were hit. That's damn powerful.

I worked at lowes in Virginia in 1992, i remember Andrew well. I loaded so much plywood after that storm it was just crazy. We sold out for a while but i remember watching the price of plywood skyrocket here. I would see trucks loaded down with plywood headed south on i 95 for months after!
