Welcome to pg. 4!
Saw that during the Blizzard of '93 when green lightning hit our transformer. Also saw green clouds during a summer tornado, seemed they were reflecting the green on the ground, as from a mirror in the sky.

I wonder if this solar event along with the eclipse will cause a major earthquake event here in the United State sometime this week? Trifecta of disasters!

Just saw that. If the two CMEs did not combine and we get hit with another impact, things could get really rough.

Make sure you all have some extra food, water and ammo ready just in case. No lights for even a couple of weeks will suck for EVERYONE.

Field is also flipping south during the last hour. Z (green line) is the polarity of the field.

[link to flux.phys.uit.no]
 Quoting: Gavin

I've heard that the field pointing south is when we should get concerned. I was wondering why that is? And also, how do you read the graph you linked to to tell if it is pointing south?

I consider myself a bit of a suntard, but have always been a little foggy on that part.

Thanks for the info!

I don't know if this is a dumb question or not because I don't know about this kinda stuff. I get headaches with weather shifts and storms. Can something like this a impact environment and pressure? I have a crazy indescribable headache so just curious if that could be why

[link to www.yahoo.com (secure)]

Scientists have noticed correlations between solar flares and people's moods. They say the solar storms can desynchronize our biological clocks and effect a gland in our brain that controls sleep.

So if you feel super sleepy right now, blame the sun.

It's throwing your internal clock all out of whack.

The solar flare can also cause headaches, palpitations, mood swings, and just a general feeling of being unwell. Your thinking feelings confused and chaotic and there's a chance of increased erratic behavior.

In other words, it's a real fun time.

Some people who are very into the impacts solar flares have theorized that this intense flare is "apocalyptic" and could ramp up Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Jose. But scientists haven't confirmed what the combination of both could do.

But in the mean time, if you're been feeling annoyed, tired or just off lately, it's not you.

It's just the sun.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 74996775

If the north-south (or Z) component of the CME field is positive (northward field), the CME will have little or no effect on the Earth.

However, if the north-south component of the field is negative, it opposes the direction of the Earth's magnetic field. In this case the two fields interact, allowing energy from the solar wind to enter the Earth's magnetosphere. Such events can cause magnetic storms, periods when the Earth's magnetic field is highly disturbed

The Green line (Z component) is positive when over the green baseline and negative when under. This is when we say the field is southerly.

So with Jose being upgraded to Cat 5, and it was only expected to be Cat 4...maybe the CME pumped Jose?

Might be interesting to look at the surface temperature anomaly animation to see if anything happened.

Suntards, they have absolutely no idea how to read sun weather data and yet try to make sense of it with their primitive flawed logic.
