why you always carry your firearm in a holster
[link to bearingarms.com (secure)]

So I see these movies and TV shows where people stick their sidearms in their belt, usually behind their back. Sidearms with only a trigger safety like the Glock.

Every time I've tried that for experimentation it always turns out to be a bad idea. The appendix position works okay, sort of, with a trigger cover for the Glock but all in all unless you have to ditch the weapon it's a very bad idea.

For single action Mexican carry is a bad idea too.

Basically the only people who carry this way are idiots or criminals.

Although some slack might be cut in some cases, I know a guy who carries a Ruger LCP in his shirt pocket.

Unfortunately, one Missouri gun owner never got the memo – or he did and just chose to ignore it.
The man was shopping at a University City grocery store with a loaded firearm tucked into the waistband of his jeans, sans holster. Since a waistband provides little to no support and fails to keep your weapon properly oriented, the handgun quickly began to slip down the man’s pants. In his attempt to keep the gun from falling to the floor – and with nothing protecting the trigger – the man accidentally discharged a single round…and shot himself right in the leg.

I am kind of bad about this myself. I do put whatever I decide to carry in a holster, except for my .380. I typically put it in the large side pocket of my cargo pants.

I worry about inadvertently squeezing the trigger, so right now I'm not carrying a round in the chamber. If any shit happens, they'll have to give me a second to chamber one.

In states where open carry is legal, like Texas, what kind of reaction would cops have to a western holster strapped to your leg with a cowboy style wheel gun in it, for Fast Draw. If a cop reached for his gun, would you assume it was a threat to your life?

It doesn't make the cops nervous? Back in the 50's and 60's, fast draw was a big thing. You've seen the youtubes. Draw with your right hand and fan the hammer with your left hand. No cop could get his glock out that fast.

Not here it doesn't. Open carry with virtually any holster means less that a second to draw and fire.

Just take a look at IPSC or IDPA competitions.

Or go to Gunsite or one of the dozens of other schools.

why would they be nervous ?
regardless of the bs seen on tv etc,it's not real life
and in Texas, if you're dumb enough to simply take aim at the cops ?
come on,huh ?
death penalty or
another armed citizen gets you
suicide by another cop ?
etc

and to the other reply-yeah there are plenty of cowboys in Texas and they're not running around playing w/their firearms or acting like assholes w/open carry as they can get arrested IF CAUSING DISTURBANCE IN PUBLIC DUE TO OPEN CARRY.

Only in Hollywood will you see people running with full size pistols jammed in their belts. Doesn't work too well in real life. I recommend a fobus holster.sits high up on a decently snug belt. Easily concealable, accessible and comfortable.

I practice appendix carry drills where my trigger finger is always off the guard by an inch and then pull up and push out applying my finger to the guard during the draw .

Ofcourse make sure its unloaded first . Practice that until its second nature to have youre trigger finger away from the guard applying it as you complete the draw .

I carry condition 0 glock appendix . No worries.

Holsters people. There are so many different styles, fitments, and locations options, at all different prices, there is just no excuse not to use a holster.

Otherwise known as the BEST way in the world to BREAK your single action.

The ones you see in vids have been specially set UP to do that... By gunsmiths that specialize in cowboy action shooting or fast draw events.

On a normal single action "fanning" will QUICKLY break the hand spring...

I carry a snub nosed 1860 with a thunder grip and .45 colt conversion cylinder almost every day... I practice with a single handed draw as well as two handed.. Mostly I use the "off" hand, in two handed, to cock the weapon...

I dont play dress up and all of my sidearms are every day "working guns".

so you carry a shortened version of the 1860 Army percussion revolver converted to .45 Colt black powder cartridges?

What is a thunder grip?

Why would you use this as your carry pistol?
