How long can we survive if the sun went out?

Gravity waves are as fast as light, so I would say we wouldn't even see the Sun going out. Cause we would be busy with the enormous effects as the Solar System becomes unstable as the huge mass loss kicks in. Without it's gravitation field, i doubt we would survive a minute, so its like 7-8 minutes, as the effects have to kick in.
