Re: Best groups from Canada you never heard of:
1970 Joni Mitchell

But you probably know this version better:

---------------

Kim Mitchel:

I know Kim and his old Keyboard player Greg Wells. Greg went onto write music for mostly American singers/bands that have sold nearly 100 million albums.

Greg was from my city. Kim banged a 16 year old girl I dumped in highschool. (He was in his late 30's.)
 Quoting: ChrisVet

Kim is from my hometown. He went to the same high school I briefly attended many years after he graduated, and before I ended up moving to a new neighbourhood. Kim grew up in a neighbourhood where one of my uncles still lives today.

In spite of all that, I never met him.

I did, however, meet one of the guys who was briefly a drummer in Kim's original band Max Webster. His name was Paul Kersey. He seemed like a pretty cool guy, although he didn't have a very good opinion of Kim.

Even so, I've always thought Max Webster was one of the coolest bands around. I mean, with killer songs like High Class in Borrowed Shoes and Let Go the Line, how could you go wrong?

I went to high school with this chick in Rockland Ontario.
And just for the record I think this type of 90's electro dance music sucks.
She was cool though. She smoked weed and drank whiskey shots with us school parties

Re: Best groups from Canada you never heard of:
The Rankin Family, they do it all play and sing etc., from Atlantic Canada. Famous in Canada but not well known outside of the country. They are a folk/bluegrass/country group.

In this video list to midway when the girls cut in vocals they are excellent.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75542013

Heh. I work with someone who is first cousins with The Rankins although she lives in Ontario now, just as I do, and not Nova Scotia.

Still, The Rankins were an excellent, talented band. It's a shame they lost so many members to illness and accidents. And too bad I didn't get to see them live when I had a chance.

Here's Cookie Rankin belting a knock-out performance of Bruce Cockburn's 'One Day I Walk'. Truly a spine-tingling and awe-inspiring performance, to say nothing of a great way to honour Bruce and his considerable oeuvre of music.

And you can't get any more Canadian than this next clip, 'Mairi's Wedding' which was shot in Nova Scotia. Again a stellar performance, even if it is backed up with pre-recorded music:

I think they only want people to post music that nobody's ever heard of,
even though most people are pretty much posting anything Canadian anyway.

Good taste, and I'll add diamonds. Great Max W. tune.

chuckle

I'm nearby in Peterpatch (You'll know the city)
I have a picture of me and Kim with his head turned because someone called his name the moment the picture snapped. Kim's big conversation with me was regarding his need to 'take a leak.'

I knew his keyboard player through family and work much better. Nice guy who quit to make his millions less than 2 years later down in the states.
