Respond to this thread if you earn less than $60,000 a year and are surviving... I am doing a little experiment here to prove a point.

There are people on this planet earning DOUBLE our salaires or even TRIPLE our salaries and basic average income levels and complain that it isn't enough!

I've probably made $125 this YEAR. I made $4,000 last yr being self employed and owe $200 to the gov that I cannot pay. Death of a breadwinner can turn your world upside down. I cannot find a job after putting in hundreds of applications. About to shove off to another family member. Have had to sell things I didn't want to part with. I am not physically able to much yet disability would screw me just like it did the breadwinner. I just want a home I never have to move away from and live in peace while I try to heal my wretched body. Surviving? Hell no. Royally screwed by everything.

lol... I'm with you. I make 44K but I'm happy where I'm at.

My brother makes over $200K and has the best of everything and very unhappy with life. He'll buy expensive stuff or take lavish trips to try to make him feel good but it's short lived. He also constantly brags about how much has. It really is sad because his unhappiness is very obvious. Money can't buy happiness!

My husband makes $1500 a week, and works 30 weeks a year, roughly. We made the decision for he to work fewer weeks and for us to move out of the country for several reasons.

We have 3 young kids still at home. It was becoming nearly impossible for me to stay home with them- and our baby just turned 2. I have no family or friends that could watch him, and, day care just wasn't going to happen for my baby if I could avoid it.

So, now- we are here, and, it's great- year round growing season, fresh organic fruits and veggies, rice and eggs, etc. It is hard to adjust to some of the changes, and, our travel expenses are high...

But, only being together on weekends, putting our baby in daycare, plus the crazy hurry-hurry-rush-rush culture of the US is no way to live...

So, he is here 3 months straight and then 2 weeks for every 8-10 he's gone.

For us, it wasn't about- can we survive? It was about how can we survive better, healthier, with less stress, and, more time as a family.... And, the US just couldn't cut it, plus I really hate winter! LOL

Hell, I am going to go out on a limb here and tell you all my expenses:

Electricity - 400.00 a month.

Car Insurance (3 vehicles full coverage) 350.00 a month.

Food Costs $ 300.00 a month.

House payment $ 450.00 a month.

House Insurance $160.00 a Month.

Medical Expenses $200.00 a month.

Car Payments $400.00 a month for 2 vehicles

Misc expenses $200.00 a month.

Medical Insurance $200.00 a month family coverage.

It takes every single penny me and my wife earn paying those expenses, and I we are living paycheck to paycheck. My wife earns maybe 1/2th of my income.

I didn't include other expenses such as clothing expences, cellphones, etc.

Think of all these people earning TRIPLE or more your salary.

CEO's earning MILLIONS a year, etc.

Do you really think they are better then the average human being on this planet?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 13127957

Yes, much better - higher IQ, better educated, better at dealing with people and working with them to get things done, better at speeches, conducting meetings, better at socializing, less lazy, less of a procrastinator, more organized, I could go on and on.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 62503269

There is NO CEO on this PLANET deserves almost 400X the average workers pay a year!

It is beyond insane! It is PURE GREED!

The irony is that I can live better on $5k per month now rather than when I was younger. That's even taking the devaluation of the dollar into consideration as well.

~35k for the last 5 years. Just bought a duplex last month and a used bmw. I have multiple investment accounts with balances over 15k. I do buy/sell stuff as a hobby so that adds a bit extra. 55K for me and I do okay. My lifestyle is such I have sufficient money to pay all necessities fairly easily. There's money left over to work on my spiritual needs. I also have enough savings for a small scale emergency.

Also, zero debt.

That being said, I need to get some work done on my car. Not wanting to spend my savings, but that is what I saved it for.

The case of the more you make the more you spend is very true. I know people who make more than me and spend it as fast as they get it. Boats houses and cars , their money is going everywhere.
Family's get used to a certain lifestyle and continue on a bad managed system just like poor people.

Whatever you earn always live like half of what you get paid. 100,000 libe like you make 50,000. Works every time.

some things/expenses are absolute to prepare for as in rent, utilities, car ins and gas and food-so there are no movies, eating out, SO WHAT.
