Respond to this thread if you earn less than $60,000 a year and are surviving... I am doing a little experiment here to prove a point.

Less than 14,000 a year. That's what the wife and I live on. Gets a little tight sometimes but we are fairly comfortable. Have everything we need and a few things we want.

Between my husband & I we make around $50k per year.

In the early 90s we survived on less than $10k per year while some postal employees we knew were bitching about not being able to live on 50 grand a year.

me too................. I live on hardly nothing work my ass off to gather and grow what I need and over age 60, never did have a mom or dad and husband died at age 23

10k a yr, real rough.

I make 45grand before taxes with a wife and 15month old. $1200 2 bedroom ghetto apartment in Colorado... Barely making it paycheck to paycheck... Feeling like another slave trapped in the system... Stuck and fucked to slave away to pay for rent food and gas... Slavery was never abolished just streamlined... The hardest working slaves are the ones that can choose their own job and trade their slave coupons for cool junk. I want to be freed from this matrix.

Whaaaat?! That's about €4500 a month?! Without tax deduction? Dude, I have to live off €1200 a month while working 30hrs a week and doing totally fine! I don't know how expensive living in US is but if you think 60k is almost too little money you're totally insane.

Break it down for us, will you? I'm curious how you still have "spending money" on less than $500 a month. I'm sure many here would like to know this miracle budget you are on as well.

I make around $24k a month and live comfortably. The thing is though, the more you make the more you spend. My car payments alone are $1400 a month combined. $1.6M house, bigger utility bills, etc.

Plus we like to travel and go out to expensive dinners.

I have a lot of respect for the lower class and try to hire as many as I can to do odd jobs around the house or temp stuff at work.

You chose slavery when you decide to have a kid without the means to support a family. Don't blame anyone but yourself for you lack of financial planning.

Girlfriend and I pull in about 42K. Living good, but doctor bills are starting to eat into savings. Kids are gone, home is totally paid....

Don't have that much in savings, due to the prepping bug...

There are certain areas of the country where you can live very inexpensively...

The trick is to live in an expensive area and get your social security. Then move to the less expensive areas with a nice paycheck from Uncle Sam. It's also nice to have retirement savings too...

In a fairly decent neighborhood, a few miles away, I've seen 1 bedroom houses rent for $300 - $400 per month plus utilities...

Try it on 15k with children, over three quarters goes to a "land lords" fifth house who won the land on a raffle ticket at a pub [so none of that "we worked hard" bullshit, many sit on their arse in unneeded jobs. car salesmen can buy houses, reward for their dishonesty. no rewards from the system because i wont play slave. no need of it anyway. no want. the rest goes to electricity company, petroleum company and supermarket company when all we want to do is live a life on the land like any of the other animals living with nature.
W dont have to like following the lifestyle that other [greedy] people want to. Oh thats right, we do, or they break family apart and lock you up, thus showing their true stripes

Okay, I will bite. We make just over your top end of defining rich. Both my husband and I operate businesss that create jobs. We both have long hours, he more so than I. I hate his job because the toll it has taken on his health. His is definitely more mentally exhausting.

I on the other hand have a lot of employees (>150) and a lot of headaches that come with it. We pay well over a $100,000 a year in state and federal taxes. This does not include property or any other taxation. We donate generously. We do not live check to check, but believe me we have in the past. But we also didn't get crazy, live in the same house for 17 years, kept it simple.

But my desire is to chuck it all and live a minimalist lifestyle. I have wanted that for almost 10 years. But I feel the responsibility as an employer to all of my employees.

You have to understand that if we create an even playing field where everyone makes the same you wouldn't have people like me that are willing to work and travel crazy hours to create businesses. It has came with huge family sacrifice. Money is not worth it and the way I am the more I have the more I give away.

Agree, this is the norm.
Where there has been losses of revenue and more so in non-urban locations it is ghosting areas out.
Areas where agriculture was as well as other things.
Inflation sets in over time and the basic necessity to keep areas basic needs, becomes no longer affordable to maintain it.
Schools go bust and are shut down.
Jobs are few and will not continue much longer.
Everything vanishes.
Why we today have places or areas where agriculture was piled up in and centralized in, while they ruin it and hold it hostage.
What mistake to have piled such up in places like that and never developed of allowed it to be dispersed evenly.
Urban allowed to decay and turn to hell holes while crippling the rural areas.
Sinister as hell its self.
