Shit, if I only made $60,000 I would be embarrassed and poor. I feel sorry for you peasants who have to live on those types of scraps.

I make 72k.

I had a DUI which drained me for awhile.

I just payed off my car so my only monthly payment now is 695 for rent and electric/internet.

I live minimally. Most of my monthly bills go to food (eat in only).

I'll be saving a ton of money with the car payed off. I put all my savings in my 401k (15% by 7% match), my etrade account, and expanding my cryptocurrency mining operation.

I will likely expand my miners in the next 3-4 months.

Well here's how much it cost the two of us to live

900 rent + 430 bills + 475 food + 160 gas ~ 2000/month

no health insurance

24,000 per year - every thing above this is extra

Oh and own 2 cars, no payments, and do my own mechanic work on them.

Really worked to get those bills down used to be around 800/month

I live on 19,000 per year working full time. I have an MD, Comp Sci degrees. I have 10k saved in the bank and rent is 450 for my apt. I know retired teachers and city workers that make 2000$ weekly and say they have trouble making ends meet; one of these retired teachers had the gaul to say that she was living in poverty at 2000$ per week!

My last job I was making over 60k a year, got fired for whistleblowing. (long story)
Anyway I found another job close to my home and I make less now. Surviving and because I had to change how I was spending money, SOMEHOW I have more at the end of each pay period than I did when I was making more. Hard to believe, but financially I am better off now.

not far off what hubby makes if you account for his ex taking a quarter of his pay each month. We are heavily in debt but that is because he came into the marriage heavily in debt and he sucks at doing the bills, but won't let me take over.

now making about 60k. Hasn't been easy but managing to pay the bills and not go into major debt yet with family of five. Probably too old to look for higher paying position.

less than 10K a year, old lady with chickens, live alone in the woods on rented land, grow most of my own food, cut fire wood etc. Happiest I have ever been in all life. I could live forever like this if the pain of my body wearing out was not so bad.

I'm currently making more and my wife works..I went from making under $56k about 7 years ago fresh from dropping out of grad school. Every time I've gotten a pay bump the poorer we got thanks to going off assistance, through increased tax rates, and finally not qualifying for any credits or decent deductibles. This is probably the first year we won't owe an extra $10k over our joint tax returns over our combined 1 exception. It truly has been eye opening how much the government hates the middle class. I still have a shit ton of student loans left that I can barely afford even though I'm making more than double what I made just a few years ago and it's fucking ridiculous. I own a modest home in the suburbs and commute about 2 hours in the summer up to 5 hours in the winter every damn day. Success is more work than a lot of people are willing to pay.

Family of six living comfortably on one income of roughly $40,000/year, paying off debts, own 2 cars we fix ourselves, grow and preserve our own food, barter services where needed. Seriously downsized housing and sold 85-90% of our belongings, I left a professional career to raise our kids. Kids are happier with more time outdoors and activities not related to electronics. Homeschoolers instead of public school BS, so we save a lot there, too. Public school really isn't "free," there's always a $200 list of school supplies, dues, and don't forget all the fees for anything extracurricular or clubs.
People CAN live on less than $60k/year, but a lot of people believe they/their kids have to have name brand clothing, larger homes, tv service, married mothers paying 3/4 of their weekly salary on childcare instead of staying home to raise their kids, the latest/newest phones and electronics, don't want to learn gardening or mechanics skills, and would rather throw away and buy new what breaks. Gotta make the inner change before the outer one can happen.

The only things I could cut out of my life would be school and associated travel expenses. I'm damn near tuition free anyway. I suppose I could sell off my investment property, but that's a minimal expense.

You can survive on almost anything, as long as you understand the difference between want and need. If you do, there's always a little bit lefter over for stuff you want.

I went to town today for my grandsons birthday. The old guy remembered me when I stopped at the fruit stand and gave me half a dozen full big boxes of free over ripe and a little bruised fruit for canning and the chickens. about 30 canning quarts and free chicken / worm farm /compost . I did buy one box of perfect best red peaches you ever tried

Someone making $55K/year can be living quite well while someone making $5K/year can be living very poorly yet both are making less than $60K/year.

So, what is the point exactly?

You may need to think through this a bit more.

You might state it as making more than $60K/year and suffering or less than $20K/year and doing well in order bo make some kind of rational point.

Take care and stay away from drugs.
