I am doing a little experiment here to prove a point. I make 72k. I had a DUI which drained me for awhile. I just payed off my car so my only monthly payment now is 695 for rent and electric/internet. I live minimally. Most of my monthly bills go to food (eat in only). I'll be saving a ton of money with the car payed off. I put all my savings in my 401k (15% by 7% match), my etrade account, and expanding my cryptocurrency mining operation. I will likely expand my miners in the next 3-4 months. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 13127957 My last job I was making over 60k a year, got fired for whistleblowing. (long story) Anyway I found another job close to my home and I make less now. Surviving and because I had to change how I was spending money, SOMEHOW I have more at the end of each pay period than I did when I was making more. Hard to believe, but financially I am better off now. |

I am doing a little experiment here to prove a point. I'm currently making more and my wife works..I went from making under $56k about 7 years ago fresh from dropping out of grad school. Every time I've gotten a pay bump the poorer we got thanks to going off assistance, through increased tax rates, and finally not qualifying for any credits or decent deductibles. This is probably the first year we won't owe an extra $10k over our joint tax returns over our combined 1 exception. It truly has been eye opening how much the government hates the middle class. I still have a shit ton of student loans left that I can barely afford even though I'm making more than double what I made just a few years ago and it's fucking ridiculous. I own a modest home in the suburbs and commute about 2 hours in the summer up to 5 hours in the winter every damn day. Success is more work than a lot of people are willing to pay. If you do, there's always a little bit lefter over for stuff you want. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 71124074 I went to town today for my grandsons birthday. The old guy remembered me when I stopped at the fruit stand and gave me half a dozen full big boxes of free over ripe and a little bruised fruit for canning and the chickens. about 30 canning quarts and free chicken / worm farm /compost . I did buy one box of perfect best red peaches you ever tried ....my mouth is literally watering right now. I love-love a good peach! You never change things by fighting the existing reality. I am doing a little experiment here to prove a point. Family of six living comfortably on one income of roughly $40,000/year, paying off debts, own 2 cars we fix ourselves, grow and preserve our own food, barter services where needed. Seriously downsized housing and sold 85-90% of our belongings, I left a professional career to raise our kids. Kids are happier with more time outdoors and activities not related to electronics. Homeschoolers instead of public school BS, so we save a lot there, too. Public school really isn't "free," there's always a $200 list of school supplies, dues, and don't forget all the fees for anything extracurricular or clubs. So, what is the point exactly? You may need to think through this a bit more. You might state it as making more than $60K/year and suffering or less than $20K/year and doing well in order bo make some kind of rational point. Take care and stay away from drugs. |
