IDK if the accidents are being caused by people wanting to take pictures, I remember driving through Oklahoma on i-35 northbound during a storm. It was difficult to drive for several reasons, the highway had flooded, there was sideways rain, vehicle shaking because of strong winds, and traffic caused by storm. There were cars trying to stop on the side of the road, the problem was there were too many vehicles and just plain confusion, some vehicles on the shoulder lane were stopped completely and others that had stopped were trying to move away this with poor visibility and freaking stopped big rigs on the main highway blocking some vehicles that wanted to get away, all this while a tornado was on the side of the field.

I've been through exactly what you are describing more than once! I have a theory that there is some phenomena that causes part of an Okies brain to shut down while driving in bad weather. (Okay, just kidding) I have experienced this though and it was frightening. The weather can turn extreme here in a matter of minutes and those people that do not have experience in dealing with it can quickly become a bigger danger than the actual weather. There is also the fact that most of our roads do not have shoulders meant to be parked on. Often there is no way to safely pull to the side yet people still attempt to do it causing problems. This is especially true in the case of big rigs. They have a tendency to get stuck then block traffic when trying to get back on the road.

What I didn't understand is why a big rig had stopped in the middle of the highway, I understand them stopping on the shoulder road but why block an escape route for other vehicles. Maybe there was something we could not see ahead and the big rig was looking out for others idk.

In twister country I would be tempted to dig a deep hole for anything people will use.

That is perplexing. Could be that you are correct in something happening our of site. I do know that on occasion even the police will enlist rigs to block the road until more appropriate solutions arrive. Might also be that it hydroplaned and jackknifed. I've seen that more than once during storms as well.

Well that would be quite kind. hf

I personally share a safe room with my neighbor. You wouldn't believe just how thankful I am for my son and I having that hidey hole! In the past we lived in rentals so it just wasn't feasible to install a shelter and the local public ones closed some years ago so it was the closet / bathroom for us if we couldn't get out to my folks house. There were a few very scary storms that we had to ride out there but thankfully we always got lucky. When I was finally able to purchase my own home a shelter was a number one priority.

Why must you bump this thread? Post to one of the two that are pinned about this.

Because when this was taking place I didn't see any pertaining to the Riverwind storm. I also had not bumped the thread since the storm passed other than to respond to comments. Thank you for the bump though.hf

There was an odd looking medicine man three days earlier who did a Red Horse Dance outside of the casino at sunrise something to do with what they call Dagwanoenyent or spinning giant head, a man eating monster.

More details if you wish...

Do you happen to know what Tribe the medicine man is from?

I believe he would have been a member of the Iroquois tribe. That said, I've been unable to find verification for such a performance at Riverwind so I can not be sure. hf

When you have heavy rain, smoke, smog , you can't see shit to drive, so you just shut it down right where you are. Anyone that hits you from behind is driving where they can't even see.
